Sounds like after being diagnosed w cancer you have gotten a bit testy w people. I assume you like these cars too otherwise you wouldent be working on them. So why destroy good useable parts and or repairable cars? That primered 70 dart or scamp, I woulda bought that, and trailored back to Tx.

Ya sure you dealt w Assholes but what about the rest of us. I would be willing to pay reasonable prices for stuff. A long while back . A couple years ago I recall, You had put an ad up on fabo with storage units full of stuff. I had PMed you with a list of stuff I needed. Talking you down on price was never in my thoughts. However you said you didnt want to deal with shipping. That's part of it. Not everybody lives in your area.

I have sold parts all over the U.S. Canada, and overseas to Poland, Germany, England, Belgium, and Iceland, to people on this very site exclusively. Almost never had any issues. Most on here are super people to deal with.

I think somebody was gonna buy all your parts from you at one time, and then never showed up so you told all of us about it, threw it all in a dumpster took pix, posted them to Fabo and had it carted off. What did that prove anyways, that people pissed ya off so you were gonna act that way and take it out on fabo folks by posting pix of that ****.

A real **** It attitude is what I am reading from your quoted post.

Cancer had nothing to do with the parts I listed in those sheds. What happened is a popular member on here and his son were buying every thing I had in those sheds including the cars. I told that person 10k . We made arrangements and I had several guys including members on this site help me box everything and get everything down from upstairs, These parts filled the work area and covered my driveway for the next day We were ready. The next day came and went and he didn't show or answer his phone. That went on for several days.

Now if you looked at the pictures things were pretty much in order before he said he was on his way. He never shawed and never answered my call or called me back. I was told through his son that he was in the hospital. Then I find out he was elsewhere buying other cars.

Now can you imagine doing that. Now even if someone asked for something it would take days to find it. So I wasn't hunting parts at this time if you wanted something come and get it. I bought 2 more race trailers and another shed just to get my garage back clear.

I started watching the want ads and was able to see what people wanted that I could get to easy. Even to this day I am finding parts I didn't remember having. and I still watch the want ads.

I sold a sharks tooth grille that I shipped. I got a item not as described and they got there money back with a tracking number. I got a smashed Aspen grille back. This happened at least twice with other items. So that was the end of shipping items.

After that I sold a lot of parts to walk in's that knew who I was. I in the past would take a trailer load a day to Carlisle. I was not on this sit at that time. I was at the corner where they are selling T-shirts now out side the Daytona building this year for at least 3 years I would make at least three trips on that weekend to get more parts because I sold every thing.
I was just trying to give parts away on Sundays to have fun with people. So don't claim you know me when you actually don't, I had to many parts scattered everywhere even on other properties. Did I have B-bodies? Yes I did. I could not get my money back out of these cars.

If I did and R/T I bought a couple of R/T's. Road runners All years I bought them up. Even an A12 that was cut to pieces for racing. A 440 six pack Cuda. I Gutted cars that would be a sin today . But no one wanted to Buck Up for the whole thing. To get my money back I had to part them because I already took parts for my car that I was building . Either for myself or to fix cars for other people.

I made over $3500 this week end in parts and that is on top of what I spent for duster parts. I didn't even have a spot. I was the guy with the MAGA hat driving around on the scooter eating sausages. LOL maybe I'll get a spot next year.

One of these R/T's was redone and the othe two were parted, It was not cancer that made me bitter . It was just *** holes on line. One day when I get time I will scan some pictures in from my shop before I was married. I did GTO's Firebirds Chevelles Novas. I like them all.

That is my son in this r/t. He is now 34 4spd,dana cars. we parted them an made quick easy money on top of the build car. They did not repop parts for these cars then and the internet did no exsist. Wake up and smell the Taco's

I delivered Parts to Carlisle this weekend. I made two trips. I made it known only on this site. I have thick skin and like to laugh. Those were not even a fraction of the cars my helpers dismantled for our parts we needed to take on work when no one had parts. You couldn't fix a perfect body if you didn't get the parts off of another car. And they were out there if you had the means to buy them and travel. Graveyard cars of the past is what the say. This car was there over the weekend. Would not exist if not for the other two doner's

This 73 340 sport came here as a parts car . It was rust free. I sold it to a member that comes here for $800 as you see it

I tought I would mention that the Sport above sat for 25 years as it is pictured in the city right at the mall. He would not sell the car. he never covered the holes in the hood . The city finally towed it away. It was sold by the tow company for $500. I just thought the owner finally sold it to someone.

The buyer lived near me and he left it sit in a field. About 5 yrs after he bought it. I saw it through the brush in the fall when the weeds were down. It was the Pink that caught my Eye. No one was ever there. Finally one day he came to my garage to see if I could get it running. It was to late the fresh motor became victim to the elements. He sold it to me for $800.

But because the car sat on the city street the body was rust free. Jim wanted the car so he bought it for what I paid. he didn't low ball me.

This is how I see it. Many people want to buy the rusty cars and have no clue what it takes to stop rust when they are swelling at the seams. They are junk, I will not sell those cars to someone that say they want to fix it. That is the same line I use to talk owners out of their babies.
Most of the time they want them to bring to Carlisle in parts. I have see to many times parts from cars I sold at Carlisle. I sold them to people who said they have been looking for a long time for just this car . I sell them cheap and see them stripped for the hobby. After this happening several times I came to the conclusion I'll strip them and sell the parts myself

You all walk around Carlisle and buy used parts. there are thousands there. Do any of you confront any of them and ask them where they got the parts. They didn't fall out of the sky. None of you would say anything to anyone in person. But online you all have big mouths. I'll say what I have to say to your face. Just like I type on line but you will get all my words. I won't hold back because I really don't give a rats *** what anyone thinks . And I am not a pussy that has to hide behind the key board.

I don't care what anyone thinks of me. As far as I am concerned as stated above by the members who see things for what really they are . Once they are in my hands I will decide if they are worth fixing. I become their god, If they haven't led a good life they go straight to hell from here .

I am sure the guys will stop in and we will laugh our asses off on how many of you I upset. I have a blast trying to show people the real world as I do wearing my trump hats and shirts to the show. I received many hand shakes but it was the angry glares and comments I like. They can start some face to face interesting conversations .

Here is where that deck lid came from and you all were concerned about the dart?. That is the motor from the primered Dart . That scamp was a parts car. The car had no rust but why would it be a car to part out. Can any of you see what is wrong with it that it had to be stripped? I could not believe what they did to this car . I had the title. I used the cowl every part was saved except the trunk lid. It became a victim of circumstance.

So who was it that returned the Aspen grille for a sharktooth? Was it a member here? If so, you should out them so we'll know who to knock off our lists. If it was me, I would even out the father and son as that was total BS. There are always two sides to every story and almost every time you never tell yours until way later........trying to be the good guy. I sure am sorry about all that.

And tell me about the super cool blue wrecker.

I have to agree with a lot or almost all of what oldmanmopar says. Been there done it seen it heard it.
People now days restore (try to ) cars that back a few decades ago were not even decent parts cars. Does not make sense to try to save every old cars you find. Many are meant to be donor.
Back then hardly NO ONE wanted a slant or 318 anything. They were parts cars.
Repop parts back then was little to nothing. It took bone cars to build a desirable car.

Here in SE Tx it is not a kind place for cars to sit outside. Too many trees, leaves and pine needs. Too much humidity. I look for projects West of here, few trees, and little humidity! One thing for sure, NO salt!!

Price of stuff? I lived for 39 years in Missouri. Especially South West Missouri is an old car area. NO where near the pop. as back East but Old 66 runs thru and always been a car area. Lots of Mopars too, even after R and R bought many of them up decades ago.
But it is a lower income area, everything there is cheaper than many states. Cars , parts, mechanic rates, etc. My mentality of what a car or parts is worth is based on my experience there. Now I realize the part I want in Pa. might be off a difference price range than Mo.
Who is selling that part. If the guy selling parts is like Oldmanmpar, he knows the market and is market.. Now the newbie parting out an old Volare may not be quite knowledgable. Maybe he just wants to make a buck to fund his builder, and has no idea that the 3 spoke steering wheel I asked about (on FB Volare site), of that Volare , that is cracked and needs major work, is NOT going to bring $150 shipped! H figure this out after a couple months and then asks me for an offer. Already found one on a bone car for $20. What is it worth? $20 or $150???

That's RIGHT! I think a lot of the problem is these younger guys have no clue what it's like to search for parts in penny pinchers, newspaper ads, bulletin boards, ads in the back of magazines and some even salvage yards. You know.....BEFORE the internet? Now that we have the internet, there's been a huge explosion of everybody reproducing all kinds of things that were only available on parts cars before.

I can remember more than once contacting someone in a newspaper ad and agreeing on a time, showing up only to find out "oh I sold that yesterday", ir it was not even the right part. These guys nowadays have it made.

The fellow and son were from Conn. I will not call him out . Karma will find him one day .

RUSTY;

The blue Wrecker?

My dad bought it when my son was born. I named my son after him and he was so proud. I asked him why he bought it and he said. "Steve if you are not afraid to knock on doors and look for work you can feed your family with that Truck it will tow anything". He was killed a couple months later

It was my bread and butter for a while and did I ever use that truck. After he was killed.

At the time we had 2 70 RR's , a 71 GSS , a 69 R/T conv. , 62 polara Conv. a 67&68 Frirebird 400's . and 2 Dusters Mine and his. I have a picture of that tow truck in the background of me getting my duster ready for paint. Yup I still had the Duster and the truck just a couple of years back.

There was nothing it could not lift. It was a 1953 chevy 6400 with a 2 speed rear 525 retriever. It won a couple parades in its prime. I could not afford the Insurance and plates when I stop using it and recently sold it when I first got ill. I drove it on the trailer for a man that bought it . Went back to Holmes for a resto for their display. This was originally red and white and built on a decked out fire truck chassis. Remember I told you all when I build something I bought several. Well that I did. The road runner was my driver at the time 383 4spd. The Duster is all I have left. I gotta fix it again.

I have pictures of all my cars . My Duster. I don't care how many times I have to re body it. To me its just a bigger part I need to fix my car. Some buy a fender and hood I buy Body's, They were always my Numbers and they are always the same parts going on. I saved the drivers side door this time. But I have more, From all those parts cars

if you ask why I keep fixing this car and not scrapping it ? It is because I can

I won money every weekend with this car on the street in the 70's 80's. I lost some too but I was always ahead at the end of the night. I only raced heavy's and always up hill. Smart was better on the wallet then fast most of the time
011.jpg

We had the first one lightened up. I had more 340 Dusters than you can count on your hands and feet . These VIN Numbers were always special to me. they have a history that goes with them.

Numbers ?? Why wee dun't kare abaut thim theer Numbas ! Its onlee ah cah !

This was the second body

I you look close there is the tow truck in the back ground when I was working on my Duster. Notice I put a visor and dual splot lights on it

Now it will need a third. I have two left just like the first one on the roof. Clean and ready to go. I just have to decide which one to start welding the cage in .

I have a pair of those weiand valve covers, I dig'em.
I'd have bought that too if I weren't 3k miles away

There was a title for it but I wanted the rear and the disc brakes. That is why I bought it. I was willing to let it go to help the kid out. I paid $400 and I already took the nice Dash pad I was only selling it because the kid stopped and ask me for it. Oh He was in his early 20's and he came back with his dad or an older friend to get it cheaper ? He didn't know who he was dealing with

Wasn't there, but I bet he knew diddly squat and his daddy knowing that tried his own luck... and obviously queered the deal.
Lol Maybe if you threw in a 340 and some ralleys he would have ;)
I've spoken with you on the phone before, you sound like straight shooter/nice guy . You gave me advice on line psi in my 518 in my truck. Also spoke about a 340 a/t duster, I think that was the car, you asked very little for it... and it was killin me because it was too far away at the time.
Do what you need to do, just make sure your legacy is a good one.

Man I love that old wrecker. What a legacy your dad gave you with that. I'm sure it paid for many a meal! Thanks for sharing those pictures.

If anything, this thread thread and all the pics are motivated to get some cars running.

I got home early today and I am in the process of pulling the engine.

When I asked the previous owner if he would sell me this car, he said " I didn't think anyone would want it, I was going to pull the disk brakes off and junk it " I bought the whole car and its almost completely rust free and has a title.

Almost one lost, just because it's a 75.

This is one of my favourite pictures of all time. Thanks Steve.

I had this car at a shop relatives shop. He threatened me that if I don't come down and help him on a job he was going to drag it outside. I did not have a trailer . I only had the tow truck. A friend and I went down there and I got into an argument with the my relative. He thought he had me by the balls because he knew I had no way to get it out of there. But some quick thinking i walked across the street to a another shop and we put it on the roof of my 72 Dog car.

Why did we call it a dog car? Because I had two shepards that would come to the garage with me.. The white shepard thought that was his on the road dog house . So I would leave the passenger window open 24/7 rain or shine and he would stay in there. I could have kept a gold bar on that dash and not have to worry about a thief. I had to let him out so I could get in first so we could go home . And that was a task. No one could even get near that car

I had the body sitting so it would not damage the body I was not concerned about the 72 on the bottom. We used blocking and coma-longed it tight inside the 72.

What is not shown on these picture is how it was seen going up the highway. My friend put his arm up over the chain on one side and I did the same on the other. We put rubber straps from the body to the car front and back. So it looked like we were holding it on with are arms. I drove this thing home up the 4 lane highway passing cars at 60 mph. The looks we got were unforgettable. It was the talk of our town because many saw it on the road. Back then I had the attitude what ever it takes get it done. I got these pictures from some one who followed us home . I sat in the body for one of the pictures

scan0012.jpg

That tow truck was a solid piece of equipment. The bumper was as thick as an I-beam. The truck was slow on hills after replacing the 216 with a 235 and using a blue flame corvette dual exhaust. But it would do 75 80 mph on the highway.

Once I was climbing a hill and this car behind me was blowing the horn for me to pull over. We hit the crest and I started picking up speed. It was hot in that truck and I was not in themood. He passed me going down the hill . He threw me the finger and hit his brakes to slow me up for the next hill.

I step on the throttle and rammed him. Parts from his Ford galaxy were going under my truck as I pushed him down the hill. We came to a stop he got out and came running back screaming at me with his fist clenched. I didn't say a word I just dropped him in the road. I helped him up and told him to get in his car and get the hell out of there or I would throw him in the weeds ,Hook his car up and he would be walking. We were about 5 miles into the mountains. There wre no cell phones for the cry babies back then . He scurried off with his nose bleeding and I never saw him again.

.My dad told me just punch them in the nose as hard as you can. It calms people down when they can't breath or you knock a tooth or two out. You would never get away with that today. I watched him and learned from him that is what separated the men from the big mouth boys. It cast $72 a tooth back then at times it was worth the money.

Recently my neighbor Todd came over . We borrowed his brothers log splitter and grabbed Todd's log I was going to split it for him. It was so big you had to move it with the loader. The splitter was running and I was sitting on a chair pulling the handle while my son and his friend were loading the logs.

Todd started yelling about his log. That I gave him. I told him todd take all the wood you want and I ignored him. He reached over and shut the splitter off . I retarted it and sat down in the chair and told him to go home. He waited until a log was in the splitter and shut it off again. I don't know what came over me but I got up didn't say a word and punched him right in the nose. My sons jaw dropped in amazement and he started to laugh. Todd went home then and apologized the next day.

I was doing radiation treatments and could barely talk. But he understood me then. Todd worked for me since he was 13 yrs old I helped him buy his house next door when his wife threw him out.

You all will find out as you get older you really don't have time for bull **** in your life from miserable people.

Here is Todd and my wife detailng a GTX I towed in to sell. He looks the same today at 58 yrs old. He is like my son he spent every day with me riding in that tow truck when he was younger . I would bring him 2 Spam sandwiches every day for lunch. He didn't have a licence so I would let him take what ever mopar that was here to go get 4 Yohoo's to drink. I gave him a purple 340 4 spd Duster when he turned 16. It is that brown on sitting in the back ground. we eventually repainted the car to its original color.

Man I love that old wrecker. What a legacy your dad gave you with that. I'm sure it paid for many a meal! Thanks for sharing those pictures.
I have pictures of that tow truck on Nazareth Speedy way. They paid me to clean the track of cars after the endurance races.

The scrap yard was right up the street. I would yank all the good motors at the track. I would back the truck over the bumper and put the hook in somewhere. Never used a wrench . That truck would pull them like a tooth. The booms would elevate and swing out to the side I would put them on the 53 stake body. Anything with a good 8 3/4 went home with the other black 56 tow truck while I was pulling motors and loading them.

The one race there were over 150 cars to be removed. There were usually 300 entries. The scrap man would give me a flat rate of $125 a car. I would get my check on Monday. That was a big monthly pay day and it brought in other tows also. Boy the memories we all have . If only we could go back knowing what we know,

I would buy all the 340 383 and 440 cars I could afford. My friend Rolly would buy all the hemi trade in cars on car lots and keep the drive lines. He is still selling them in Hemings motor news and and chrysler collector guide But mostly to Ray Barton Racing. That is how I started selling Ray 67-69 Cudas and Darts. Did you all know that Ray is from England and they would not let him in to the US. Chrysler brought him in through Canada. When ever I would go visit we would go out for Dinner and talk about yesteryear. Our sons are the same age . Ray gave my son our motor block for our Duster on a bet through his son David.

Post #168. NO p and p discussion guys ! But is it not funny how our immigration laws have changed. I knew Ray came to US from Canada but did not know he was an Great Britain immigrant.

Cool stories man!!

I have enjoyed all the stories by Oldmanmopar. I'd love to show up at his place with some beer, kick back in a lawn chair and just listen to all the stories he had to tell! Nothing better!

Yep...then watch'em punch your beak flat
No trouble makers allowed here we get into enough trouble on our own.
My son has costume parties . The cops were called for a disturbance. He answered the door looking like this below with his dog . The dog was a black lab he was wearing a black fiber-optic LED wig at night. He looked at my son and said.
"You have a guy out on the corner wearing only his boxers, a construction vest, and a hard hat directing people to your garage. Go get him in here he cannot be standing in the middle of the intersection.

The one day "69383valiant" Dave was here and we were sitting down stairs. Where he was he could see up the driveway. We were talking and just like that Dave's Eye's got big and he said calmly. "Steve there is a young girl walking down the driveway with nothing on" I looked around the corner and there she was. All she had on was two Pasties and two black feathers . They were both stuck in her hair only one was on her head. Here all the girls, About 30 were dressing as indians for thanksgiving diner. A couple of them took it to the extreme. I moved my chair over and Dave stayed a little later that day. I had my wife bring my heart medication down.

There is never a dull day here . They are always here planning something to do or somewhere to go. also if it has wheels it gets races

Picture this, I have two gas golf Karts. They hooked up two power wheel jeeps they got out of the garbage to the back of the golf Karts with 20 ft ropes. They took turns getting in the jeeps seeing who could hang on in the turns while they were racing. I was on my knees laughing so hard I couldn't breath.

Or the time they took Detour signs somewhere. They put them up and brought all the traffic down our dead end road to Todds driveway. Where they set up someones Realtor signs for a open house . Todd was not home.

I had a chance to buy a wrecker similar to that not terribly long ago. It was up in Forsyth, about 30 miles away. 56 Ford F800 with a huge Holmes unit on the back shaped very similar to your blue one. 272 Y block truck motor, 5 speed, 2 speed axle. It ran and yard drove. Needed brakes done. ALL of the winch and boom features worked. I came REAL close. In fact, fate stopped me. I went one day to look, told him I would think on it, went the next day, got the money and went back and he had sold it. Only wanted 1200 for it too. What was so bad.....it had very and I mean very little rust. Oh well.

I love the stories and the pics, Steve.
A lot of people don't realize that when it comes down to it, these are just cars and always have been. They are meant to have fun with and modify to your tastes, it doesn't matter if it's an old one or a new one...........
Have fun with them and buy, sell, or trade cars and parts or part them out if they are too far gone.
Keep the stories coming, i sure wish that i could sit down and talk with you some day, just don't punch me in the nose..........

Well said......Can't stand to see it but its way to common. That and also the people who have beautiful cars under covers in garages and they sit there and never ever get used. Guy in my neighborhood has a triple black 1966 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed that since I have been living there has never ever seen the light of day......I was walking one day and he was out so I asked about the car. He was all happy about telling me he bought it from the original owner and has all the paperwork. I said its to nice to be hidden in your garage for at least the 13 years I've know of the car......I actually called it a crime to have it and not ever enjoy it.....
Update....Was laying around this morning and heard a car coming up the road. Thought it was a guy down the road who has a lift in his garage and at least 3 cars to pick from. He drives his cars to shows regularly. Anyways I see the car go by my house and its the Chevelle SS in my neighborhood that I've never seen out of the garage. So I'm heading to Dunkin Donuts for a coffee and go bye the house and there she is parked in the guys front yard. 67 SS Chevelle triple black. I'm no chevy guy at all but the car was amazing. The owner was in his driveway and I had to stop and say something. I congratulated him for finally having it out. He told me its been 10 years since he's taken it out. I went on my way but an hour later I went for a walk to get my steps in for the day and of course I walked by the house again. He was giving the car a bath before putting it away for hopefully not another 10 years. I asked if I could come check it out and he was more than happy to let me drool over his baby. He told me he's owned the car for 30 years and bought it from the original owner....WOW....He also told me he doesn't do shows or cruises and had a Chevy Nomad stolen from him and never recovered so he is over the top cautious and would rather keep to himself. While he was talking to me he almost sounded ashamed to not use the car more often. Who knows maybe he will start to drive it more.....I'm glad I finally got to see it up close and personal.
