I use diluted Meguiars all purpose cleaner and a nylon bristle brush. Really the most important part is using a nylon bristle brush to clean all the dirt out of the grain. Then I top with Aerospace 303 to protect.
Gun brushes work great in small spots or on steering wheels with grain that have a bunch of crud trapped in them.
