Pictures of cars and things of my past of my past

Question though, back in the day in the 60s and early 70s, didnt a lot of young guys coming back from Vietnam buy these things new and kinda drive em like effin nuts a lot of times wrecking them and causing the insurance companies to notice and start severely jacking the rates up on em based on drivers age and cubic inches? And I am saying this without any disrespect to any of these people that you mentioned who died in these things.

I mean as built new in the 60s and early 70s, we know by todays standards these cars weren't real safe. I mean they have early unibody construction, skinny assed bias ply tires, woefully inadequate drum brakes and suspensions, along with overly large engines. I mean, was this the norm back then that everybody young had one of these that the drove em like an effin animal? I think a lot of young men came back from Vietnam after being shot at and not dying, and maybe thought they were invincible.

I think at least now a days, with what people are doing by beefing up the frames, subframe connectors, bigger sway bars, bigger brakes, better tires, better or improved suspensions, to go along with the engines in them that we are making them much safer to drive fast from a braking and handling standpoint than they were back then. I know if you hit something at speed with anything new or old its gonna wad it up like a piece of paper. However, I think all people cared about back then was going fast in a straight line, and if you had to turn or stop you were **** outta luck. Sucky brakes, sucky suspensions, and they would easily over drive or exceed the limits of the suspension and braking systems at any speed over 75 mph.

I know back then dodge put stuff in their advertising for these cars that was probably some lawyer speak to distance themselves from this issue that was happening on the streets at the time. I have dealer posters with some subliminal messaging in the bottom on the posters. A 68 super bee dealer poster and on the bottom it says (drive safely speed contests belong at the strip) , a 68 dodge charger R/T advert that says on the bottom (drive safely, its contageous) and another 69 super bee poster that says on the bottom (safety is no accident, drive with care).
