LD4B how good and how rare what are they worth?

Why is the ld340 never in intake shoot outs. Are they scared of it? Same with the weiand excellorator.

Who does intake shootouts with a 318? I've seen the Xcellerator in a few. Not for a small block, though.

I'd like to see an LD4B on a mild 360 with 302 heads. I bet it would shine to about 5500.

I have tested the LD340 on small port heads. The reversion thingy is crap. Ur motor is an air pump. The heads are doing the sucking, so to speak. The 318 actually picked up a few ponies and tq. The only way u will get reversion is if u have a hood scoop sealed to the carb. Kim

I have tried 302 heads with a stock intake and an LD340. Went from 360 heads with a 2 barrel to 302 heads and a 2 barrel nice performance boost there. Went to a cast 4bbl. Another nice increase. Then put on the LD340, a little more ponies. Kim

What a LD4B is worth is a loaded question. The asking price for them has jumped in the past two or so years. The price of aluminium hasn’t gone up so perhaps there’s a perceived demand increase (or supply shortage)? I upgraded my 318 2bbl to a 4bbl with a LD4B w. 302 heads 3 years ago. My butt dyno says my Scamp feels a lot peppier but I’ve got no proof other than what folks say on the internet with their testing.

I thought $142 (incl shipping) was expensive when I bought mine!

IMO, they (along with the LD-340) are a (often ridiculously) overpriced antique part that gets outperformed easy by modern easy to get parts.

The regular RPM for an everyday driver, an AG for a engine designed to be more aggressive street - street/Strip car.

As title says. I’m curious how they compare to the new Eddy RPM and Airgap. What are they worth these days?

I guess if we stopped putting them on a pedestal, the price might come down........but I'm not gonna lie to somebody and say they're junk so.......

I got Pictures. Lol

We know, WE KNOW!!!
LMAO!
We knoooooow!

I e seen past publications with the LD-340 in the mix. It is a good intake but the modern units are better.

Your right unless your trying to extract every last pony.

I put an air gap on my 340 in place of the LD4B about six weeks ago. I don't think there is a huge amount of difference. The car does run better but I put much of that to the new AVS2 carb in place of the holley 650DP. Most of the improvement is in the upper rpm range, which makes sense.

Don't likely use an LD340 in testing as it's not available new. The Mags are about selling product for manufactures.

The Performer 318/360 is a solid intake with about 5 minutes per port and a grinder. Run it and a 1" spacer and it runs VERY close to an RPM/LD340 intake. BTDT. If you have the intake, it's capable with a little elbow grease.

The port opening is a non event with these intakes between the LD4b, LD340, RPM and air gap.

"Non event"......is that like A.O.C.? lol

It's the 318's version of the LD340. Separate intakes for the designated purposes.
It made 17.5 HP over the stock factory intake. Made power to 6400 rpms but I think I did not have enough spring. Everything stock less the cam(stock lift values) and 1 5/8 header.

Kim, have you tried the LD4B on the big port heads?

Yes, I have. 1 weekend at a test and tune along with at street class I changed 6 intakes. On my 1970 340 with the 284/484 purple shaft cam. 67 dart with 1 5/8 headers and 3.91 gears. Factory 340 high stall converter. The Torker 340 was the worst single plane. The Holley street dominator was 2nd. The Weiand Excellerator was the best. The LD340 was the best. The LD4B Was a close 2nd along with the Weiand 7507 I used the stock iron intake as a base line. The same carb was use on all the tests. 750 Carter Competition Series. 6000 rpm redline. It was all pretty much a wash as what the single planes lost on the bottom end the made up on the top end except for the Torker 340. It was almost 2 tenths slower. Kim
