I beleive there are threads on this, opinions vary but the one thing I heard that seems to work is "the width of a flat carpenters pencil". Which I think is 3/16". Good luck.

As small & even as you can get them
EDIT; and be able to open/close without hitting
actually, in all seriousness, I think I tried to get other gaps to mimic the one set of pretty much fixed gaps on the car- the trunk to quarters gap.

You're kiddin, right? Man, these cars were SLUNG together. Long as "nuthin hit nuthin" they let it ride, buddy. lol

I think I went 1/4" on the quarter to door 1/4" on fender to door, that was the only way the hood fit right.

I think its true that one guys measure ment may not work on your particular car. From what I have read , there is an "order of operations" for aligning everything, I remember the hood has to line ip with the fenders, but the fender to door gaps have to be right etc. in other words, as an example, you can align the fenders to the doors, but then the hood to cowl gap may be big etc. like you get the fenders and doors perfect, then the hood dont lign up to the edge of the front fenders. I think it takes some playing around to get it "perfik" and like said, they werent perfect to beigin with...
