My Cuda at one time, had an A833od with a GVod behind it used as a splitter;for 7 useable speeds. Worked pretty cool with 4.30s, and a 223* cam.. But in the end, the 367 didn't need all those gears. Five woulddabin plenty.
Currently it has a Commando box and still the GVod, now optionally used as a splitter.... but mostly just used as a 5-speed.
But consider that this is in a 3650# vehicle, with really torquey367.
My Orlando, also 3600pounds, has a 6speed automatic, 2.5 liter VVT 4-banger; that would hardly be driveable with a 3-speed auto, even with 220psi cranking cylinder pressure. I was watching the tach the other day; At normal throttle application, it drops about 500 to 600 rpm on the shifts.
My earlier Cuda combo dropped about 750 when shifted at 3400.
