F8 green new vs. old

i have this ratty 340 swinger that is F8 green. As you can tell, there isn't much left of the original paint. Have any of you guys used the 2017 challenger F8 green in the rattle cans from the dealership to touch up? I wouldn't be trying to cover all the spots. Just hit the bare metal parts. And if I felt ambitious, do a blacked out hood thing to this red hood and paint the sides of the hood. F8. Couldn't look any worse, right?? :lol:Thanks guys.

How about just going to your local PPG automotive paint supplier and have them mix you up some Basecoat F8 Green same color the car came with.

Basecoat sprays out easy and is very forgiving, dries fast. Could even just panel paint it one panel at a time if you don't have the shop space or a big air compressor to spray it all at once. Will look better than what you have now and dries a bit flat without the clear that will be more forgiving of any imperfections.

Couple examples here:
Original color Acrylic Enamel, large can . . the sticky original stuff.

And the small can, mixed F8 Basecoat that is the same color yet.

Simple Omni Basecoat and the Mid Temp Reducer. Good to Spray . . .

Then you can do something with that finish as you are working on it, easy to touch up.
Rattle Can Paint won't leave you a very good base to put anything over the top of it if you want to.

I painted my car with F8 base/clear paint from TCP.com. They carry a house brand (since they are also a PPG dealer, I am guessing it might be a PPG product) called Restoration Shop that you can get mixed in any color. It sprays, covers and polishes out as well as anything I have ever used, and it is way cheaper than PPG.

Not really set up to spray anything at the moment. Just looking for info on the new challenger F8 vs the old F8. If they are anywhere close to being a match. Thanks for the info though.
 
I bought a 3oz can of the new F8 from the dealer to touch up a spot in my engine compartment, It's much lighter than the original F8. Would not use it on the outside for older F8 paint if you need a good match.

Thanks Clyde. I may buy a can and try it as my paint is pretty faded. I could at least try it on the hood I think. It's red.

Since you mention that, I have seen a few new Challengers that I thought looked just like the F8 green. I have not looked into it yet, but it looks exactly like the old F8 green to me.
