Dartin for Divorce

Got the dent out as much as we could with our little dent puller. It popped out quick on the body line, but the rest seems like a crease or something because it wouldn't pop out. I even tried heating the metal. Maybe someone here has an idea? I'm going look use the search button here in a second.

We also did some sanding on the roof, my son didn't help me tape because he said I only asked him to sand...jerk.

You may be able to get a paintless dent removal place to massage that dent out for you. Bring it there without the back seat and interior panel on so they can get access to the back side. I wouldent mess with it too much more you may stretch the metal too much to where they cant fix it.

Yea I tried the heat (heat gun) followed immediately with cold (wet rag with ice wrapped in it) did it 3x, that was after getting the major portion on the body line to pop out with the puller.

I was thinking if I have some time during the week, barring not having to study for any more tests/quizzes, that I would be pulling the rear panel off and trying to lightly tap it while pulling it. Crease dents are always the worst!

I was cleaning the inside earlier in the day and stuff kept falling out of the front seats when I fold them forward, opened the backing up and although the foam is still thick its old and dry so I'm looking for new foam as well. The wife is going to kill me haha.

Watched a video of a paintless dent guy fix a major pushed in rear panel on a Toyota highlander. They may be able to fix it to where you could never tell. However If you stretch the metal too far then take it to them, they may not be able to do anything by then.

Took the wheels off for a little bit to measure the drums to make sure I buy the correct shoes and springs to redo them.

The front has a couple different stamps first is 10.090, second is C10-470, and 3rd looks like 236 99. I'm assuming these are 10 in drums 2.5 width.

The rears have no marks on them at all can't even google invisible stamps .They measure bigger than the fronts though, like 11in outer back portion of the drum, I didn't think 11in drums came on A bodies though?

Then I looked over the 3rd member to see what the gears were and they are for sure 323s. It's a 2881489 , from reading this one is an early Borg Warner unit that is supposed to be a descent one I guess. It looks like the case itself was cut before though?

Got new brake shoes, wanted to do disc brakes, but 3k plus right now is asking for the wife to be mad.

Installed the fronts, the rears just came in today, the brakes are already so much better. Still getting used to the difference in pressure with the manual brakes though.

Put some rust away gel on the roof and pillars. Says to wipe it after an hour or 2. After that I'll wipe it, finish the sanding a bit, prime then seal it. My cousin owns a pinstriping, vinyl wrapping and tint company. He offered to give me a hand installing the top of I need it .

Glad you finally picked a car, that looks like a good start.
For brakes check out Dr. Diff

I went to oriely's down the road to replace all the drum brakes. Looked at rock auto, for 20 bucks more I got it the day after vs waiting a week from rock auto.

When I start building the 8 3/4 I'll for sure be calling Dr Diff for discs all around, axles and all the other little things .

So You said You have two more years of dental school? hell, I should put You in touch with My ex, she'll show Ya how to torture people in 2 minute's, trust Me, I know!
By the way, I like the car, nice score !

Thanks man! We love it... The kids are bad helpers, they only last ike 20 minutes before ditching me.

Yea 2 more years, and God left that place a long time ago!!! My wife would probably agree that I'm already great at torturing her, and much other worse things to say about me haha. Jk she loves me... I think... Hell maybe she's just waiting for the Benjamin's before leaving me.

My Uncle is actually a dentist, and my wife's boss of the past 10 years (wife just quit, and I'll probably buy the office in 2 years). Seemed like I was just destined for dentistry, except I don't want to work on people. My goal is to retire from hands in dentistry by the time I turn 40, which is about 8 years after I graduate .

Ps- this car was originally a gold car, I got grey primer and don't know how far to primer it where the paints end/overlap. I may go and switch out the grey for black .

Also my top has some creases in it, I read leave it in the sun and stretch them out lightly and use a heat gun to lightly stretch them out

Well, if Your wife looks anything like that beautiful little girl sitting on the floor, think I might not have dragged that great car home and took a chance, nice lookin' kids, and the boy looks like he's really into it !

Daughter is a spitting image of her mom, diva personality and all! My wife and I were each other's first bf/gf in 8th grade. I always promise her I'm not going to buy another car and always end up getting another within 6 months haha. I at least waited 2 years this time.

I actually think my daughter likes helping more than my son, he doesn't like feeling hot and he has really bad ADHD like me so he gets distracted, frustrated and bored really fast. It's ok though, even if it's for 5 or 10 minutes helping I enjoy every second of it.

My wife and I started dating in grade 7, many...many years ago as well. Congratulations on staying together in this day and age! As for your kids, 5-10 mins is great, make it fun and they will remember it all. I would spend an extra hour or 2 "fixing" what the kids worked on after they went to bed. BUT, I always praised them for their work and help. Now my son has the white 70 dart in my avatar. Now he fixes stuff when I go to bed...he still says "thanks dad!" Haha.

I love the pic with your little girl wearing snow boots in Vegas, it has to be hot there.
The east coast is almost melting this weekend from the heat.

She is all primed up and ready for her new top! Did a black primer, 2 coats, and clear sealer. Hopefully the top will make it look 100x better! Then one day we will have to take it in for a true sand blasting and new paint job, until then I'll have my nice 10-20 footer .

My son has ADHD as well. He loves the old cars and fixing them up with me. It will hold his interest for about an hour or 2 at a time. I think part of that is it's something he likes so it keeps his interest. Dart is looking good. Will be even better once you get the new top on it.

Pics. Hopefully I can put the vinyl on today if I can get the pregger wife to help me stretch it.... See what I did there

Alrighty then! Done for the day, wish I had a little more time to work on the car because the top is so close to being done, all I have to do it the trim around the outer edge of the rear window.

Little notes:
1st- It was nice to have done a vinyl top myself as I have never done one before.
2nd- I will never do one again, although it is not hard I feel like its not perfect.
3rd- I used a whole 1/4 gallon of contact cement and it was not enough, ended up using the 3m spray adhesive on the trim areas and in the window tuck.
4th- Did I mention I won't do this again? haha. I marked, measured, marked and measured. Did it half at a time and there are still some little bubbles and it is killing me. If I were to do it again, I would definitely learn how to pull the front and rear windows out as getting the top tucked in those areas with the clips are hard.
5th- It looks 100x better than it did with no top.

The boss helped, I didn't let the little ones help because the adhesive but my daughter sure wanted to help. She also liked coloring on the top .

Maybe a hair dryer or heat gun (low heat) and a squeegee will help get some of the little wrinkles out.

Like you said though, it looks TONS better with the top on!!

Yea that's the plan, then let it sit in the driveway to bake in the 110 degree Vegas heat for a couple days .

I had a 69 Dart WSS (western sport special) years ago. It came with a white vinyl top and B5 blue w blue interior. I redid the blue paint, didnt have money for the top, so painted the top gloss white, and stuck all the trim back on. Car was a white hat special. Came with the white top, and a sport steering wheel. 225 slant six and dinky pizza cutter steelies.

So is the wifey diggin the new/old dart?

I think she is secretly liking it. We took it for a little spin after I got the brakes done and the wheel bearing cap came off, that freaked her out a little. She is a worry wart so that was funny. The kids love it and I think she is digging it, she also hasn't been mad that I've been working on it since we got it.

I'll insure it and register it this week. Assurance is partnered with Geico (our main car and house insurance) they were 125yr for 2500 miles insured at 10k. Or Grundy is 145 for 6k miles and I'd be able to drive it to school as long as it's not daily driven to school.

So **** me sideways on Tuesdays. The rear window sucks, it sucks worse than the rest. I definitely have some cleaning to do... The trim is all there, but the nuts/bolds/hold downs are all rotted away. I have it all held down with some make shift screws that fit in the holes .
