Running a 440 stroker in a 68 Dart. Using a 4 core rad but it runs hot. It spews coolant out of the bottom of the overflow. Dont know why this is happening.

Is fan big enough?
Does it have a shroud?
Is water pump new?
Is thermostat new?

A buddy of mine had a cooling issue on a V8 S-10. The pump impeller was loose on the shaft. $35 and new water pump later, truck runs cool. Just something to possibly look at.

way more info would be needed to determine cause of overheat

new science has proven that more cores are not necessary, but design .... I went to a 3 core on my 340 brought it down only 10 degrees, try this it worked for me..

Overheating , dumping water out the vent , are two different things. Systems without a recovery reservoir get filled only to about a inch below full. If you want to fill it to the rim, add a recovery type cap ( you may already have ) and reservoir/bottle. I did this with my OEM radiator. I never actually ran hot but would puke out some water if filled to full. nature of the beast.

  • Newly rebuilt?
  • Wrecking yard special?
  • Did it do this in the donor car?

  • Is the rad new?
  • AL or brass?
  • Make and model?

It spews coolant out of the bottom of the overflow
  • Are you using an overflow bottle?
  • How and when was the coolant last added?
  • If no overflow, did you fill the radiator full or leave an inch or so below the rad cap

It's science, water molecules are large, coolant are medium and the additive is smaller filling in the space between the metal and the other additives conducting to remove the heat.
Cooling is the whole picture right ? pump/shroud/sq. in of radiator surface area/coolant how about the style of fan blade ???????
synthetic chemicals have come a long way and lets be real here
thats alot of motor/heat in an a body engine bay even if you have a 26 inch core
:poke:

New engine. Ray Barton. Only time run was on dyno on stand. In car now. Driven 2 nights. No shroud or fan.Belt driven pump. 2 ten inch fans on radiator.

alot of debate on two small fans verses 1 big one/pushers or pullers

a track is going to require a puke can

Just dealing with this on another brand. Custom rad to fit truck. Boiling over. Cap was not holding pressure.
Tested cap. Was good. Cap wont seal in rad. I repaired bung. Was a shitty job done building rad.
Get an air regulator, dial it down to 10 psi and pressurize rad through overflow tube.
It should hold it.
As a test, i slipped an o-ring between rad cap seal and the metal disc that pushes on seal.
Like making the seal thicker. It held pressure.
