Big block A body pitman arm

I had installed big blocks using whatever pitman arm I had lying around (small block) and there seemed to be no fitment issues. My latest build will be using 73-76 steering components and I've already mocked them up to the engine and k-member. No issues at all. I have never really had anyone explain the difference in the big block factory pitman arms where it made sense as to why they used a different part.

I'm with Jim on this one. Make life easy for yourself and use a standard Moog replacement pittman arm. No need to dig around to find the factory BB one. Put the car together with standard replacement parts and clearance the oil pan as necessary. My guess is the factory engineers used a special pittman arm since they didn't have the time to do a custom pan but maybe there was some other reason. Today there is no reason to hunt down the special pittman arm unless you're doing a 100% correct restoration.
