This must’ve been one that shipped with shitty rotor phasing; it fried with probably less than five hours on it. And it did run like **** at idle and low rpm’s.

Everything has a life span.

I heard that they accidentally used the big block base plate in some of them throwing the phasing way off.
There is a very good possibility that they used a spring loaded button, but it's hard to tell with all of it missing.

Kinda sucks too that I have a brand new set of Red 10.2mm Dragon fire wires that fit a male terminal cap and trimmed to fit the small block perfect but nothing they fit on.:D

a skip white style HEI electronic distributor
Nice ID! Thanks.

What is a Skip White distributor. Never heard of it.
They are quite well known in GM circles.
You'll like the technical reviews here.
cheap HEI distributors
snip: the fabulous Skip White $50 Fake HEI. ...make sure your AAA is paid up. I have seen these that didn't make it out of the driveway.
That distributor may be just fine.
If you like playing on the penny slot machine. 'cause the odds aren't very good and even if you hit the jackpot, the payout isn't going to be spectacular.
See link above above.

Check out the link above. Sometimes they get the rotation direction backwords too, or maybe that's the pickup polarity. Didn't pay much attention as I've not playing with Pontiacs. Nothing against them of course.

I have no trust in this distributor, so instead of messing with it, I'm scrapping it. I bought an electronic ignition conversion from Ehrenberg on Ebay and I think it should be good for my purposes.

What does that look like? I wouldn't have bought ANYTHING that I couldn't find replacement parts for? Are these the "Mopar style" ignitions he sells? If so, they are just as Chinese as what you're fixin to throw in the trash. That doesn't mean they're bad......I'm just lettin you know.

Yes, it is the Mopar style ignition he sells. I've bought a few things from him in the past and they've all been of good quality. Plus, it was cheaper than Summit and he ships faster.

I think that is part of the phasing issue, is that the big block rotates the opposite direction throwing the phasing way off for a small block.
Out of all the stuff I have seen the OE type electronic distributor is pretty hard to beat for your average driver street car.
I just recently bought a brand new one and swapped my timing parts over to it.
I also slotted the housing while I had it apart so I could adjust rotor phasing if I needed to, but it was right on the money.

I have too. Those units are the same ones that Summit sells under their brand. I haven't used one, but they "appear" in the pictures to be decent. Let us know how it works out. Keep this in mind though, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE makes good electronice anymore.......that I know of. So, with that in mind, I'd keep a spare of everything.

Exactly why I buy all my ignition stuff used. It's a bit difficult to explain to the wife why I have 5 or 6 complete ignition systems on the shelf out in the shop. I just tell her they ain't making them like that any more.

Totally agree that why I use 30 yo parts in my rebuilds. The new stuff has way to high a fail rate for me. Now ECU's new or old are a crap shoot. Have not seen a new one I trust yet. I have a ecu tester and around 25% fail right out of the box.

Oh Wow! Whites Performance and Machine at the old Nickels Speed Shop... I never associated them with Mopar anything, looked like an all Chevrolet kind of place to me!
White performance are run by someone else and are using the name only shonky to say .There have been a few unhappy customers who have dealt with the white performance engines . A lot of people have gotten confused with skip white & white performance. Check their web page pretty impressive, all in house work done on site & engines are all dynoed. They have some decent engine packages, They warranted all their engines Chevy only I think.
