1973 340 price check?

Hi all! I have a 340 with a 727 trans that's .060 over and rebuilt to stock specs. Date coded late 72 so nothing special, it came out of a 73 Challenger. Ballpark for value? I intend on keeping it for my Duster but I've been getting a few offers for it that seem awfully low to me. Just trying to get an idea on its worth.

Unless it specifically attached to a car with the matching vin I wouldn't want it based on the bore versus what the right 340 "could bring." Then it comes down to what's been done to both the motor and tranny.

My opinion is just that... An opinion but maybe 1500.00

A year or two ago, I paid $1,500 for a complete "core" 340 (air cleaner to oil pan). Turns out it was .040 over.
 
.060 over is worth the price of scrap cast iron. You never mentioned the crank. Is it .030 under and what do you mean built to stock specs? .060 over bore is not stock specs !
 
.060 is nothing to be scared of if there is enough metal on the thrust side of the bore. I have had a few. Sure u may not be able to bore it again but how many ppl will actually drive their cars enough to wear out the motor. I’ve had 318s bored .130 thou to 4.04 to use stock bore 340 pistons. Never once a heating problem. Ur motor is worth what someone is willing to pay u. Kim
 
Can you post the partial VIN that's on the oil pan rail just above the oil pan on the passenger's side about half way down the block?

Pay $300 for a .030 over block with 3 stuck pistons last year.
I have a .060 block I wouldn't sell for a $1000.
My .040 block has over $2000 in machine work.
So your block could be worth $100 to $3000 just depends on what it is and what kind of shape it's in and what other parts are included.
 
I just bought a 440 that’s apart. The block was square decked, bored, Torque plate honed. Lined bored for new billet mains. Cam bearings were also installed. That’s over 2 grand right there. There is many ways to rebuild an engine. It all depends on how far u want to go with it. With no proof of what’s been done it’s a gamble by seller and buyer. U may not get enough for it, the buyer may get a good deal or a great deal. As long as both ppl are happy it’s a win win. Kin

I have already told FUZZ I was sorry for my remarks.
They were to harsh. I think it was the heat and I was just being bitchy.

Totally agree.

The '68 340 in my Duster is .060" over. Runs great, no issues at all.

If the engine in question is currently .060" over on a fresh build then it'll go 100k miles or more. How many people are going to put that many miles on it?

Now, if it's .060" over now and it needs to be machined again before being used that's a different story. But that's not how I read the OP's post.
 
I have a late '72 340 that came out of my '73 Dart Sport 340, but not the original engine. It's complete and disassembled. Hopefully, my son starting technical automotive college next month will rebuild it one day and replace the current 360.
