I am disassembling my 273 Commando. The cam looks good, but I was looking at summit catalog and just thought what would be a cam that would be close to the stock cam. I know this subject has been discussed many times here.
Thanks

The Isky E-4 is close to a stock 273-4 cam. I don't think Summit has them available or what other brands are for sale through them.
What year?

If your cam is good I'd use it. E-4 is good or call Jim at Racer Brown and get a custom cam. My next build will have a custom Racer Brown cam.

No hydraulics, you already have adjustable rockers. I will not put another hydraulic cam in anything. The lifter quality is a crap shoot and the maintenance is over stated. A stock build and if I had to buy adjustable rockers maybe, but I would probably buy new rockers and go solid lifter.

I'm taking a vacation and have time to think about this. I may just replace the lifters and push rods and keep the stock cam I have.
Thanks everyone

Good choice. I usually recommend the Isky E4 because it is a simple off the shelf cam that mimics the the original. I would imagine Jim could grind up anything you want.

go with Jim at racer brown or Bullet or Jones or most anything except old E-4 and 340 cam
you leave HP on the table with the E-4 and torque with the 340 (and HP)

Yep, it all depends on what you are doing. If you just need a stock replacement and don't care much about performance the E4 works well. There's always something out there that is better or more powerful.

Not building a dragstrip car. Just a fun car for this old man to enjoy. Racing days are behind me now. Not saying I want hit the road for a 1000 mile trip though

Early A's with a nice running 273 are lots of fun.
