You can put an old reluctor into the new engine, but you also need a custom timing set that would allow the old computer to be used.
IMO, You are honestly better off abandoning the harness and ecu you have, and getting an aftermarket harness/ecu for the vvt engine. Put a vvt era cam in it, even with a vvt limiter or lock.
Vvt era oil pickup is also diff than pre 09
