Twistgrip's 69 F3 340 GTS Resto

-
Unfortunately, '69 340s could be turquoise, blue, or red. If you can see virgin engine paint somewhere, there is no problem - paint it that color. If not, I don't think it really matters what color you paint it, because nobody seems to know why/when the colors changed.

Looks like I may have a brand new Kevco oil pan and associated pick up to sell due to TTI headers hitting on both sides of oil pan. I will probably have to order a moroso or Mancini pan to get headers to clear. ☹️ Thought I could cut one tube and rotate but found the whole bundle hitting on passenger side.

Posting a few more pictures, trying to keep 70s retro theme with LD340 intake and M/T valve covers.

Wanted to look close to period correct but added an idler pulley as I am not running power steering and to help with belt tension at higher rpm.

Back in shop, posting a couple more pictures. Will be sending the A/C hoses and adapter off to be modified for R134 and an aftermarket classic auto air system.

Thanks moparmandan! My lovely wife packaged my grill for shipping to partsmonsta I have attached a picture. She used two sona-tubes taped together with metal strips for reinforcement. It was a great job and made the trip there and back with no issues.

Great idea! If they can keep concrete in, they ought to be able to protect a grill!

Wow! What a great looking car/resto you have going there. Look forward to seeing your further progress updates.

Car looks awesome! That body/paint guy has some serious talent! My car was also originally F3 per fender tag but its been F8 since around 1980...but that beautiful color on your car has me thinking...

Just FYI in case you are interested in some AC pulley trivia. Mine car originally had factory AC. The under hood parts been in dry storage since the early '80s (on my list to get those back on the car). A factory '69 340, with AC, but no power steering, as my car originally was, there are two idler pulleys. One is smooth and the other is V'ed. Both pulleys are between the compressor and the crank pulley. One pulley is used to adjust the belt tension the other is stationary. If interested to see how they look I can dig mine out and post up the pics; not for sale but for reference.

Funny that all the younger guys see the color and think it is custom. The F3 green was prone to sun fade and you just forget how much the metallic shines in it. Of course modern two stage paint tends to enhance the metallic shine too.
I am interested in pictures for the factory AC as I bet a few people on the forum would be also. I was going for the dealer add on look using a modern vintage air set up save for the RV2 compressor. Here is a couple shots of the progress.

Am I missing something? Because I see no breather(s) or PCV system on the valve covers.
Everything looks great though!

They haven’t been cut yet, still have work to finish before firing up. We put them on ginger tight to make sure we they had clearance with the ac, heater lines and fuel. Actually trying to decide if I want to run PCV or plain mid sixties breathers. Any experience with throttle bodies vs carbs with PCV systems?

There is no difference, vacuum is vacuum. I see a mix 50/50 of people running PCV or just two good breathers. You'll get a lot of different opinions. Personally, I don't think it matters much either way on hobby-type cars. I'm sure you change the oil way more often than your supposed to, and also don't do a lot of real short trips. So the oil heats up good and whatever moisture is in it burns off. In that case, oil has no chance to get contaminated with water which is a big reason why it might be good to run a PCV system under more "normal" (daily driver) circumstances. I have one K&N breather in each valve cover, oil gets changed every 1,000 miles, or one Summer (whichever comes first), and I have never had a single oil-related problem. Some will say I am crazy. That could be. I say do whatever you want!

Sounds reasonable, I appreciate the discussion points. Thinking I will start with a pair of simple breathers and add PCV if I need to later.

Where is partsmonsta located? Was the price reasonable?
