Hi,

Does anyone in here ever fabricate their own moldings ? I need the grill surround moldings on my Dart, but no way I can afford brand new ones. So, I am scratching my head, can I get away with making my own, and how.

Are there any books or movies about such things. I am kind of eager to learn. I am a mechanic and electrician by profession, but metal fabrication is sort of out in the darkness for me.

I’ve never heard of anyone fabricating any. Unless yiurs are totally trashed why not work whatever dings/dents are in them. They’re aluminum so it should be fairly easy to work on them. After you’re done, polish them unless you gonna get them re-anodized. SpecialT’s comes to mind as one of the premier guys to repair trim.

Oh if I just had them. But they are poooof, gone. And there is no moldings on the sides of the car either. But I don't know if all 270 models had moldings on the side. The front moldings, hood and candy canes, is that what he called them, they should obviously be there because there are holes for them. The hood one I have found used for 75 dollars. But the canes, the cheapest I have seen for between 5 and 6 hundred dollars. And that is kind of outside my budget. And some take over 800 for them.

Hmmmm, No candy canes. Time for a Want Ad and hope they have very few dings/dents.

270 side moldings - yes 270 models had them full length on the sides. I have a partial set from my wagon - no fender trim as mine was gone when I got the wagon. It was no big deal as I was going to eliminate them anyway

Yes, please start a wanted ad. You might be surprised what you might find. I picked up a almost complete box of trim from a 66 GT car a few years back. It almost cost more to ship than to buy.
