1970 Dart Swinger 340 fuel tank sending unit

I don't think there is much difference in any of them. Some brands have a plastic float which reduces the cost. We've seen just a couple of posts about fuel leak at the bulkhead connector for sender wire. As far as we know all of the replacements are built with the same linear resistance so they won't be accurate as OEM throughout the range. Some installers will bend on the float arm to alter accuracy at some portion of the range but I don't know which direction they bend it. One direction could cause the float to bounce against bottom of tank whenever fuel level is low enough. Could that cause a hole in the float?
My first sender came from Vans @ ebay. It worked as good as they do work for several years. When it failed I found a tiny crack in the brass float right where the wire wrapped around it ends.
The shape of the wire seemed close enough. The brass was very thin where it was formed for this wire to rest. Maybe they are all very thin all over. I don't know.
I had already purchased another entire sender from Rockauto to replace it so that's what I installed. The used sender is in storage with a good OEM float on it.
