We are going to see about making a deal on a 4-speed 340 '72 Demon roller/parts to put it back together and would like to start understanding these cars. Looking at parts there are a lot more for the '71 (like front bumper says '71 what is different on the '72?). What were the main differences between these model years?

Thanks,
Jim

Grille for one...and a few decals here and there

A 71 and 72 bumpers should interchange...

Grill, side makers, gauge cluster and dash frame are the big differences. Bumpers are the same except early 71 doesn't have the jack slots. Seat covers and door panels are different. Most everything else is the same.

If you have stock OEM engines. ^^^^^^^ Gonna rebuild the 340,ubild it ilke you want. # 's only count for the guy buying that is a PURIST and can afford it all!

It is a roller and will get gathered parts. It will be complete rebuild and likely a 413 kit and Toth heads.

What is different about the dash frame? Found some videos, I see the difference now.

Frames change for the Duster style cluster. 71 cluster won't fit in a 72 frame and visa versa. When I get back on my computer I have pictures of the 2 frames.

I see the difference, yes the '72 is like the Daughters Duster and the '71 is sunken across past the climate controls and radio.

The dusters tail lights were different from 71 to 72(longer). Not sure if the demons followed suit or if they were the same.
Demons were basically a duster body with a dart front clip, with the exception of the tail panel and lights. I think the demon grill was the same as dart but may have been painted different.

I have both and I see so many little differences. I prefer the 72 but the only downside I see with 72 is the last year for a rally dash was 71. In 72, even a 340 car was not available with the rally dash.

The standard dash frames are the same for 71 and 72. Only the dash clusters were different because 72 had the seat belt buzzer as a federally mandated add on which the 71 didn't have.

The hard headliner was a mid to late 72 addition. Running change during production.

Did they go to that cheesy single piece headliner for the '72 Demon too?
My 72 was a March car and had the one piece headliner, but has the pointed teeth in the sheetmetal for the fabric style headliner.

My 73 dart also has the provisions for the fabric headliner. It has the teeth and the holes for the bows. I think that went away in 74. I had a 74 parts car and it did not have the teeth or holes.

As far as the cluster and dash frame goes I guess I am wrong. After more research I'm finding that the 71 Demon has the Duster cluster, not the same cluster as the 71 Dart. Is this correct? I've owned a butt load of Darts and Dusters but no Demons.

71 Demons could have the round dash gauges, not 72's. Dont think any demon came with a dart cluster.
72 was same/similar cluster as the duster and all(?) the 73 up A's.
71 emblems are stickers, 72 are metal emblems

71 & 72 Demons used the same tail light lenses. The 71 340 car had twin hood scoops & the 72 340 car had a single divided hood scoop.

Hood's hinge's are different, 71 has plate's in the hood that are threaded for adjustment, 72 has slotted hinges, 71 has SMC fiberglass front fender end cap's, 72 has pot metal. Trunk lids are different, 71 didn't have the rib in the center until late in the year, all 72's have the ribbed trunk lid.
