Hey guys I'm in the process of Restoring my 1969 Dodge Dart. I bought a reproduction GTS hood for it and I was just wondering if the GTS hood emblem is supposed to be slightly angled at the back to accommodate the slight ridge in the center of the hood? I have a GTS Emblem but when I put it on the hood there seems to be a gap under each side of the emblem? I'm wondering if it's actually a fender badge and the one for the hood is supposed to have an angle on it? Has anyone ran into this issue? How was it resolved? Thanks

Ps: I've included a pic of my Dart with the new hood.(note the center ridge line)

My hood does not have a center ridge, it is flat all the way

Here are some pictures of my original hood and I can barely see a ridge at the front but I feel the top of the hood is more or less just rounded than have a definitive ridge. But I'm of course just going if memory since I can't just walk outside and look at mine. It's a few states away. :(

Cool thanks for sharing those pics. I need to think about it for a little bit and decide what I'm going to do. I definitely want the emblem in the center where it's supposed to be, but don't want to cut up this clean hood to accomplish that you know? I've included the original hood pic here before restoration began. It appeared flat as well, but after bead blasting, It unfortunately had a lot of work needed under a skin of bondo. That's why I went with a reproduction hood. I'm leaning toward modifying the emblem. Maybe heating it up slightly and bending accordingly???

They are easy enough to bend, in fact they are quite fragile. Be careful when you tighten it as they are not very forgiving. Good luck and WELCOME aboard neighbor

Thank you! I'll post pics after the work is complete...Cheers...

Did you figure out the emblem problem ?
Year one list the fender and hood emblem as the same part number .
Lawson’s lists them as different parts . Anyone know who is correct ?
Is the pins in the back in a different location from fender to hood?

Laysons shows different vendors for the hood and fender emblems, I think that is the only difference. I have owned several stripe and stripe delete cars and the GTS emblems fit fine for both hood and fender.

Mine is original and flat, with a very slight arch to it, so not literally 100% flat. But no question AMD did not get their tooling right, with that sharp ridge.

Though I have to say, I kind of like how the AMD ridge mistake looks, good luck with your emblem customization. The original emblems tend to snap very easily, ask me how I know.

I was going to ask about the middle ridge on this `68 customer car but then found this thread on it. His hood must be a replacement, the car was totaled way back he told me but saved it because it is a 383 4-speed car. Mine is flat, either way looks ok to me, but glad mine isn't there since one less body line to deal with in my body work LOL.

Never seen a hood with ridge like that

The hood ridge, I am wondering if some if not most of it could be taken down with a belt sander or some other means? It doesn't look like the ridge is a sharp protruding ridge, maybe the hood could be re-worked a little to remove the ridge? I have two original hoods 1-GTS 1-Swinger both are ok,,, but I also picked up an AMD hood and yes I noticed this ridge that is not factory, I may look into trying to knock some of it down making it less pronounced and maybe and emblem will fit?
Thoughts?......

I want a gts hood. I don’t however want a reproduction that has that ridge. It’s hard to find a regular factory hood though. Why couldn’t amd just get it right.

Do you think it could be sanded down? That’s a lot to pay for a hood that’s not correct.

If anyone of you have one for sale I’m interested

I am not a body man, but would venture to say it can not be done. You would sand completely through before achieving the goal. Alternatively beating it down, and using body filler to smooth it over to get the desired profile on top, would result in a lot of work with a finish never to be like an original, with the underside still showing the metal massaging.

No inexpensive/easy solution, grafting the humps into existing hood, Is another option.

But best thing to do is complain, complain, complain, to AMD, so they can correct the issue.

I wonder where they messed up so badly on that and how no one noticed.

People have bought those hoods for a while now. Doesn’t make it right. If your gonna spend $750 on a hood that’s supposed to be reproduction and you get one that looks like a mopar and a Chevy had a baby and that hood was the result. Then just wait for a real hood or go with fiberglass from Aar

I want a gts hood but not that one. I won’t buy it

AMD probably intentionally put the ridge in it for strength. More than likely they were getting some waviness in the center of the hood after stamping the hood buldges into the raw flat stock. Things stretch and pull in ways you would not guess. Way better malleable steel back in the day, today's steel is a whole different animal, with lots of recycled cheezy steel mixed into it.

Metal finishing used to be a dent removal skill back in the day when you could work the steel, pick, file, grind, sand and finish. Today the steel is of a less quality so they can't do what they used to do with it.

Hard to improve on Ma Mopar Original Parts . . .
