I would say it's the valve cover gaskets leaking for sure. #5 cylinder spark plug boot is oil stained pretty good.

Yep! It's probably my fault too when I checked to see which heads I have. It's ok I got all new ones gives me another project. It's probably good to inspect all of the stuff under those anyways.... Well by inspect I mean take a picture and search this forum, post my pictures and a smarter person than me will say spend money on "X" part lol .

Yea I'm having a blast and so is my daughter. I started the thread to not only keep track of the progress, show my progrrss, but also so maybe one day when my kids are older I can show it to them and they might get some smiles from it .

I love working in cars, just wish I knew more about this car, I also wish there was a local Mopar guy around town that would be willing to look it over and teach me a little bit haven't found one yet.

Thanks and I'm glad you're enjoying it! If it weren't for a couple of you in here it would be awefully quiet and me talking to/ asking questions to a blank internet wall

Try and contact 70aarcuda on here, he is a mopar class racer from vegas.

Culprit I think so!

The valve covers were gross so we did a little something...

They will be red again one day, but for now the silver over the non sanded 5 other colors looks better than before .

Neoprene rubber valve cover gaskets with a steel shim moulded in them work great. They dont dry out like cork either.

I'll remember this next time I replace them! As of now they are already replaced, just need to clean up the engine in that area again, because it was still smoking last night which makes me think either left over oil or it's leaking antifreeze from the exhaust manifold bolt. Which I'm ordering some new ones from summit.

No working on the car today. Smoking then reverse searing some Ribeyes then going to study .

got your $$'s worth out of those gaskets :)

Yea they did!

My plan is to hopefully have this second and if needed 3rd cooling system flush done soon. Then when I replace the wp, fan clutch and other cooling parts to throw on the mini starter, headers, and gasket to those at the same time

I've also been reading up on the dash lights, blinkers and flashers. Those are not working but the headlights, high beams, oil pressure, random rpm tachbon top of the column, and taillights do work. Most threads are saying they are all connected so I've been trying to get a better understanding of it all, and I downloaded the wiring diagrams and service manual from mymopar. Instrument pannel fuses, circuit board connectors, switch connections etc .

So fun actually learning and doing so many little things to a new car. The kids will be proud of this car and hopefully be fighting to call it theirs one day.

Turn signal switches going bad is pretty common in these cars and are still in stock at the dealership. Check the dash lights by rotating the headlight switch back and forth. Sometimes this cleans up the rheostat and you'll see the lights flicker on. If not, it may the bulbs are all burned out which is also a pretty common problem. I'm still chasing a flasher problem on my own vehicle.

I know you take your family out in this so while cleaning up under hood, I'd get rid of those battery cables with the temporary ends on them. I've seen them fail several times, usually at the most inopertune times. That and getting rid of the universal radiator hose will keep the purists off of your back when you pop the hood. Good luck and keep posting!

May be , but they will burn up w/ raised port heads on a 440 stroker , no. 2 on TTI`s are very close to the covers/gaskets . Didn`t work for me ------

That's what I did to get the rpm guage to work on the column, I'll try it again with the car on tonight .

Don't the purists know that the 15 dollar napa universal radiator adds 5hp?! ImI'really good at pissing people off, so if my universal radiator does it I wonder how they would feel knowing- it's a rebuilt title, 69 custom Vin, gt badging from a 68 and a 340 engine from a 68, and we might paint it pink... I'll get the popcorn

No offense to anyone in here and just kidding on the pink unless my daughter's ask pretty please one day, I can't say no to them .

Well lucky for him it's not that type of engine.

Wait I don't have a 440?! Forget this, I want my money back!

It's ok guys, I bought the felt pros, that's all that were in stock and I'm more of a instant gratification kind of guy... Plus I heard they break more so I'll get to take my car apart again at the most inconvenient time, lucky me .

My motto is: Whatever makes you happy at the time , do it. MAKE IT YOUR OWN. DRIVE AND ENJOY IT. It's not numbers matching, so don't worry about a concours restro. I don't think any posts here were meant in a bad way toward you, just a warning that there are a few purists that will whine about something that's not "right".

Oh I didn't think they were jabs thrown towards me, Im probably the last person to be offended. I looked at my exhaust today and now trying to search which flowmaster I have (even though I should be studying last minute for my final exam in an hour) it's killing me not knowing what flowmaster I have, apparently the part # is on the outlet side I'll look later tonight haha .

Exhaust 2.5in exhaust with flowmaster original 40 series muffler, bolted up to hooker headers is what I have sitting in the garage that came extra with the car.

Looked for videos online it sounds pretty good behind the 340.

That panther pink is awesome, only 1970 production year, crazy how few if those cars there are today. That would probably piss off the purists, misfit panther pink dart

My test today it took me for a wild ride haha .

nothin' wrong with Panther Pink
It’s funny seeing that car again after nearly 9 years was looking at purchasing that before buying the 67 Dart ,at the time it was selling for 16k had it inspected originally was a 6 and was fitted with a 70 gts 340 with all the goodies wasn’t good lots of rust and motor was blowing smoke so I let it pass and some one else brought it than it was on Mecom for ages for 24k than dropped to 19k and still passed in. Never seen it again after that. Still have the inspection photos on the other lap top.
