My horn doesn't work, I've tested it across a battery and it works fine, i've cleaned where it grounds to the body, the violet wire on the 4 pin relay is hot. The car has a grant gt steering wheel, i pulled the horn push out and there's no wires, so i pull the steering wheel off and the wire from the circular connection has been cut, so i 've soldered a wire on, fed it through to the horn push but still nothing. Anyway, I took the 4 pin relay off, push the 3 pin connector onto a 3 pin relay I have spare and the relay is buzzing continually but the horn still isn't working.
Any ideas please ?

i'm trying to get my 69 valiant on the road after being apart for 9 years. horn is the last thing I need to get the inspection complete...
stock stuff. where is the relay, drivers kick panel? Googled it and its 3 prong, looked in that area and I found a 2 prong plug with nothing in it. Does the 3rd prong just go to a ground, or should I be looking for a 3 prong plug? Looked in the service manual and cant find the info I need

No it has to be a 3 prong plug and it is under the dash somewhere. Service manual just says "at left kick pad." Which I would take means "near by"

found the relay plug, its only two wires, green w red stripe and violet. those go to the horns, but I don't have a plug, supposed to be black, to go from the 3rd prong, to the turn signal switch plug in slot 4, but nothing.

Hello, wondering if I can repair my 72 Demon horn relay. As you can see in the photos, the black wire prong inside of the relay does not have any connection to the solder. Can this be repaired? Thanks for your time

I can't see enough from your photos. If you can see/ access/ reach/ extend the wire, and you can solder, "yes" no reason you cannot repair it

Thanks for the reply, the problem I have is that there was no broken wire inside the relay casing to give me an idea of what this empty black wire terminal is suppose to connect to within the casing. Trying to figure out if I solder a new wire to this terminal, where does the other end connect to within the relay casing.Hope that makes sense. Thanks again.

Well let's look it up.................First thing is the 73 service manual over at MyMopar.............

We look up horn relay in the wiring index and that sends us to diagram coordinates B-13, which is page 8-157. We notice the ovals which tells us to go to "CI4" in the connector index. This means, Connectors, Instrument, no. 4............

hornrelay1.jpg

So the Instrument panel connector illustrations are down on page 8-167, look for "CI-4"

hornrelay2.jpg

The three together at the right of the box represent the terminals in the connector shell, and the loose one at the left represents the wire which plugs into the "lone" terminal at the other end. BE CAREFUL to pay attention to "mirror image." you will have to 'figure" which way it is layed out

Look at the diagram............

"B" at the top, HI-16V (Violet), is power coming INTO the relay, and this is hot at all times NOTICE that this connects to the "frame" of the relay also connected to the "armature" (the moving contact part or wiper arm)

M16-20BK (BlacK) at bottom left, is the "key in" buzzer activation NOTICE that electrically, this connects to the relay contact at the very top of the relay---the one that is contacting the armature when unpowered. This black is grounded when activated, just like the horn button

H2-16DGN (Dark GreeN) is the switched output to the horn(s) NOTICE that this connects to the bottom relay contact, the one which contacts nothing when the relay is unpowered

H3-20BK (BlacK) is the horn button, and goes to one of the relay coil wires.

There are TWO separate coil windings, and these will all be tiny red wires.

Great! Thanks for the info and taking the time to help me out. Guys like you are why this site rocks.

It appears to me that (tiny red) the coil wire going to the horn button wire has burned off. Look around the coil for a "piece" of a tiny red sticking out. You may have to replace the relay. What might have happened, is that the horn button was shorted and held the relay engaged. Someone might have unplugged the horns to stop them from sounding. This would have created a drain on the battery, but eventually would have over-heated the relay and burned off that wire.
