Visited Howard's Cams today....

Back further than that
one of the first popular aluminum rods
Used to wrench for Lefty and Chet against Jack Chrisman in Howard's "Twin Bear" the one with the side by side 3/8 stroke 283 chevies with the chain drive 4-71's plywood air deflector was a nice touch and place for a big "Howards Cams" logo.
In that timeframe we used to "match race" (mostly to stay away from Leonard Harris in the Albertson Olds dragster (best driver ever IMHO).
Big rivalry in "Drag News"
fact of the matter we traveled together
At the short, rough Colton strip one dragster sheared an oil pump. Other crew pulled the pump out of their tow truck. The other truck push started both. Then lots of smoke for the crowd and an early shut off to stay from the hazardous top end.
Pump back in the truck and off for coffee
RIP Jack, Lefty, Chet, Howard
Drag racing was fun back then.
