Having a hard time lining up motor mounts because the oil pan keeps contacting the k member, cant get it to line up correctl, any suggestions?

What are you working on?

Factory pan or afrtermarket?

ok notch the oil pan....two solid items can not occupied the same place....pretty simple...

engine probably moved to one side. slightly push engine to other side. also, you didn't tighten the motor mounts to the engine, did you? everything needs to be loose to line up

so why doesnt the factory oil pan fit the factory K member?,,,,

Yes I did, actually. We actually thought of this as a resolution, just needed some input. It came out fine but putting it back in is proving a challenge in lining this up. Our next method was to loosen mounts and guide them in to the holes. I'm just looking for tips to keep from smashing the pan in trying to fit this square peg in a round hole. Early a bodies are tight.

Start at the begining. Check everything that relates to engine-trans alignment.
Moter mount brackets on the correct sides of the ears.
Correct bisquits (motor mounts)
Correct trans mount ( is '65 directional? it might be)

I verified the brackets first, by the book. I definitely have the right mounts because the ones I ordered the first time were wrong as they were listed incorrectly. Then we had to make sure they were in the correct orientation. Trans mount is an exact match and we unbolted the trans cross member to allow for movement to align things better. I'm gonna heed the advice of loosening the mounts and sitting it down and tightening back up once in place. The damn oil pan is just so close to the k member, im gonna damage something if I dont get it right.

Thin wood shims will help prevent damage

So got it figured out. Loosened mounts , finagled the trans and got it line up and drop it in. Thank you everyone for the input, definitely dont want the mounts locked in until it sets down in there... a PITA to line up otherwise. We are on the up n up and should have it running this weekend.
