Ok so there's after I pulled the old ugly sundried vinyl top off, I found a few holes around the back glass on my swinger and I'm a little confused on what to do here. The window leaks through the holes obviously but also around the bottom left corner of the window. I want to take out the glass, patch everything up nice, get a new seal, trim clips and then throw a vinyl top on but i'm not sure how to go about it or if I even should. At this point the trim is out but the clips are mostly bent or broken.

Pull window and wire brush everything really good to clean and see what you have. Make repairs. Then do vinyl. Put new clips on. Install glass and trim...

Are you handy with this kind of stuff? Do you have a garage/shop with a wire feed welder, grinders and the like? If not you need to find help.

I knew I couldn’t avoid removing the glass. I don’t weld but how hard is it to take out the glass and reinstall it(assuming everything is patched up and fixed).

2 man job to be safe. Easier to call the glass company. We have a couple guys in town that work at the glass company that are into cars. They will come over for a 12 box of beer and pull glass.

Ok I’ll be able to take it out(without breaking it) for a real idea of how much work it is. I’ll have to go to the local body shop and have the metal work done. Thanks for the help people.

you need a parts car. either buy a shell that has no problems in that area or better yet, find someone here parting one out and get them to cut that section out for you. you might want to gut the interior and see if your going to need something else too. a lot of work ahead, good luck

That lower corner, no patch panel is available reproduction. Its part of the quarter panel. They do make the piece below it and its a good start if you have to fab one up by hand.
Body Components - Deck Filler Panel
Basically any parts car you find on the east is going to have rust there...unless it was a non vinyl top car. Always install new clips, they are dirt cheap.

Here are some pics from when I did mine. Both sides were bad on my car. I used those patch panels linked above and fabbed up the rest.

Tape it up when done and and paint the roof. Damn vinyl tops have ruined so many of these cars. Seen people have a spray texture put on em like a rhino liner type material.

1) it is fixable.
2) dont quit yet, part of the car hobbit is getting your hands dirty and learning new things- push your limits.
3) YOU CAN DO THIS!
4) when you are done, stand back and realize what you accomplished and feel that much better about your car!
5)Remember to paint the roof before you install a new vinyl roof. The cars did not receive paint before the roof was applied at the factory and it s why they rotted so easily. Moisture under the vinyl just sat there and had a field day with the steel.

I agree, I had my paint guy paint and clear the roof even though it was getting a top.
