Guys! My plug look like this, I know this isn't right should be tan, is this too much timing? I have a 318 mild cam 260/264 duration edelbrock 600 cfm .89 jets up front .98 in the rear. Motor does not ping timing I bought a timing tab waiting on it she's pulling 16 vac at idle 150psi each cylinder cold test auto lite 65s my guess are timing too advanced or plugs too hot

Looks ok to me from what I can see but I cannot really read ethanol gas plugs and frankly, I don't see how "anybody else" can either, but there seems to be a lot of experts around here who can.

Dang I was thinking they should be more tan lol, would too much initial cause them to have no color?

Are you sure your carburetor is supposed to be that out of balance? Two stages Lean on the primary and one stage richer on the secondary?

Dang you know what you are right, so you think the stock settings would be best? I just wanted to lean it a bit lol

Timing mark on the ground strap looks to be okay. Fatten the primaries 5% or so and you should get a little more color. You might want to check the 2 specs on the insulator real well. Carbon deposit no biggie, aluminum flecks, not good at all.

Okay I'll slap some .92 in the primary, you know remembering the previous motor I tuned this carb on had 8:1 comp and a lot less camshaft. And for sure a lot slower lol

Hold on. Your plug is too hot. No one can see the ground wire so how do they know the timing is correct?

Turn the plug around so we can see the entire ground wire.

Second, it doesn't look lean to me. It may be a tad lean, but the plug looks hot and you are blowing fuel through there to cool the plug. Plugs should not be tan. If the specks on the porcelain are not shiny and purple is is carbon off the chambers or the shell of the plug.

Technically that plug shouldn't be too hot but it looks funny.

Start with a different plug and try again.

I agree w/ YR , I couldn`t tell about the timing in the pics either ////
Why not run non ethanol gas ??

Typically Edelbrock wants you to adjust the secondarys in conjunction with the primaries. Like if you go one step leaner on the primaries to do the same on the secondarys.
And I repeat, 4 stages Lean on the primaries and 1 stage rich on the secondaries??

Jpar! your right i eneded up putting back .92 jets up front and .95 in the rear going to check my plugs again, once i put my timing tab on going to check all that

Yup, my primaries were too lean took a trip on the highway came back now they got that sweet color on em, installed the timing tab 15btdc 18 in the dizzy 33 total. thats what she likes.

Don’t be afraid of weird jet splits. It actually might like real rich primary and leaner secondary. Mine is race only so it’s not apples to apples but my 800 avs likes 4 stages rich primary and 4 stages lean secondary. Logic would say, go back to stock setting and I would be fine. Nope, doesn’t like that at all! Oh, if you take a cutoff wheel and cut the crimp off the plug the porcelain will slide out and you can see the whole thing. For example

Oh don’t use that for coloring. I have no idea when I was running it
