1965 4-barrel intake

Ok I made a mistake; I said ;
You do know that adding a 4bbl to an otherwise stock 273 2bbl combo is almost a complete waste of time .... right?

At the 2bbl power peak, somewhere around 4000rpm that 4bbl might be good for 12/15 hp. Now with 2.76s, and a 2.45 first gear, and 25.5 tires that would be .......................... ~43mph.
But at 2000 rpm the 2bbl is still bigger than the engine needs. At 3000rpm the 2bbl is still sufficient. So the power increase might start at say 3200/3400rpm with 1 hp increase......... which is ........... 34+ mph.
In my world spending 300 or 400 on that kindof ( ) is "almost a complete waste of time".
And if you somehow manage to break traction and get one wheel wound up, yippee!
Do yourself a favor; before bolting on that 4bbl, do some timed runs. Do enough of them to cement the performance. Some 60fts, some zero to; 20,30,and 40 mph.
Then after the 4bbl is on , repeat the tests, and report on the reduced times.
Lessee at 2800pounds 12hp shows an ET improvement of oh looky-looky about a full second in the quarter, for SS-unlimited suspension,lol. Where did that come from? Well it ain't in the 60ft, and it ain't in the zero to 20 or 30 mph. Oh I see it; at about 40 mph the engine is starting to make a lil extra power power; lessee I'll guess 7 or 8 hp. So all of that improvement happens after 40 mph. This is so exciting.
Yeah so sorry, I made a mistake.
I also said;
You'll have far greater results with adding more rear gear. Far greater.

Gears on the other hand will be an INSTANT improvement, as they unleash the torque that is already there. 3.23s will be an improvement of 17% over 2.76s, did I say instantly? Yes as soon as you stomp on it. No waiting until 1hp at 34mph. There is no one single improvement that you can do to your car, short of supercharging, that can touch gears..
What is the improvement with the 4bbl you ask? Lessee 1/180 if your 273 is tip-top =less than 1/2% at 34mph growing to optimistically 12/180= close to 7% at 44mph.
"Mr Trebec"; I'll take gears for instant 17% at 1mph going to 17% at 43mph, thank you very much. What's that Alex? "posi you say?" No I won't be needing that just yet, but if you have one cheap, I'll take it.
So what does plus 17% feel like? Oh, IDK, like swapping out the 273 for a 318 maybe....... Well maybe not quite.
Course if you already have swapped in 3.23s then you know what it feels like. And another 17% would take 3.73s.
Again, I apologize for my candor..
