PST 1.03 Bars

-
Maybe you guys are talking about 2 different PST 1.03 rods. Early straight cast and the newer -20 degree jobs? I know my 340 bars had to be removed with the LCA's hanging free AND turning them even farther down with a huge pipe wrench. Id assume the much stiffer rods would be installed with less of an initial downward deflection if the bar allowed it.

Ok... Update.

I lowered the LCA all the way down with the bump stop out, and this is what it looks like. The bump stop is still out.

@PST what do you think? It looks good to me and it can be raised if necessary for alignment.

Well, Here's a photo of mine from yesterday. I had installed the 1.03 torsion bars with the LCAs hanging down and in this photo, the adjusters are all the way loose. The rear has brand new ESPO plus 1 inch 6 leaf springs in it and the tires are 295/50/15, 26" tall. I think it sits a little high, overall. Will probably try re-clocking the torsion bars if possible. Then, maybe a lowering block for the rear end... Not at the top of my list right now because there's lots of other things that need to get buttoned up!

Yep, same thing happened to me. I had to re clock the bar. Pretty quick to do, actually. Just jack it up, pull the bar out, rotate until the next hex and try again. I did one side at a time.

It does look high like my original install. It’s is easy to re-clock. I have taller tires in the back 28”. My 6 leaf espo springs are “0” stock height.

What I’m finding is that I may need to get shorter bump stops for the LCAs. I had read in another post that some guys have done this. I may take a sander to mine and flatten the peak out a little (1/4”)

thought i'd bring this thread back as it isn't too old. got my 1.03 bars installed last night and put the wheels on today. after seeing this thread awhile ago, but not before i bought my bars, i was wondering how things were going to settle.
adjusters all the way loose. i was thinking lower the rear and go salt racing but my wife just gave me one of those looks :realcrazy:

bars cranked up. better...

what i don't like is what others have brought up, the adjusters are pretty much maxed out
first pic is where the adjuster had to be relative to the suspension at full droop. second shows where the adjuster is with it at current ride height.

i'm not happy with the adjusters where they are, but it's also on the wheels and tires that came on the car. not what i'm going to end up with. it's hard to tell just how low the car is going to be with it on the blocks, so i'll find out more when i get it down later. i am curious where it would end up if i'd been able to get the bars installed with the control arm down. it only needed 3 or 4 degrees more rotation to get it in there. the only thing stopping it was the control arm hitting the bracket for the bump stop

did you install those at ride height or full droop with the bump stop out?

with the stops removed and the lower arm pin loose. had to raise everything up a few inches to get it to line up
Im getting ready to install a set on my 64 B body. I've seen two different sets of instructions for PST bars, one is at full droop, the other is with the LCA set on a jack but at ride height. I think we need @PST to clarify.

mine only fit one way. i didn't have a choice since at full droop i was a few degrees off from getting the bars to slide in. if i have after market control arms that might change

I talked to James @PST He said you can install them two ways:

1. For stock ride height
2. And a lowered stance.

The bars are clocked where they can be installed both ways (just remove the hex, rotate it and re insert) I went through this already. Check post #53

Side note: when did PST start painting their bars red??

no way in hell these were going in in two different ways with the stock arms on this car. no bump stops, just metal on metal, arm on top of bump stop bracket. might work fine with tubular control arms but not with my stockers. and just to be clear, i'm not complaining about PST's bars, just showing how they fit in this car. i'll be tearing the front end apart another time to change the arms, box the lowers and do some other stuff, so this is temp anyway

Wow! I can't believe how far the adjuster is in just to clear the bumper.

Is there a right and a left ? Are they in right ? My buddy's dart has the same bars and the adjuster bolt is only in about 1/2 of that.

You mentioned an important issue. Your suspension is stock and I have the QA1. When I get my 1.03’s I will have to revisit this thread

And with the bars I have now the suspension is about as low as it can go. The PO has wide tires on front and back. Will take some pictures tomorrow

I really want to raise it up some front and back and get rid of the wide rims and tires on front that make it a bear to steer with manual box. I changed the small mopar steering wheel out and out the factory size 70 steering wheel and it helped some on backing out of the drive and turning at low or no speed

Mine is all stock, except the bars. When I first installed the bars the car was too high. I reclocked the bars and re installed. Did you have the adjusters all the way out when installing?

i'm going to double check everything in a couple days. i'm at work right now. i think they both had the same part # with no L/R markings. also i assumed the part# stamped in the end of the bars went to the rear, if it makes any difference at all

yup, everything was backed off and adjusters removed. plus the rake is a little exaggerated with big / littles on the car

Kursplat

Are the bars in question even ours ? We do not offer our 1.03" torsion bars in red? Did you repaint them? We need some clarification on if these are our bars or not.

Thanks

nope, apparently when i was going through threads about 1.03 bars, which these are, some where in the f'd up regions of my mind i got the idea these were PST's. they are sway-a-ways. my apologies to everyone and thanks to James.

it's too bad this isn't the most embarrassing thing i've ever done, but it's close :BangHead:
