We all know the choice of aftermarket wheels is pretty slim for the 4" bolt pattern and pretty pricey to convert it all over. I bought a couple pairs of adapters off EBay for $35. And 20 3" wheel studs from Summit, $60. Heres my low budget conversion plan.

Knock the studs out of the adapter, bolt it on to my hub and rotor and back drill the new 4.5 pattern in the hub. And the same on the rear axle flanges. Install the new 3" studs and bolt the new 4 1/2" wheels on. You have 2 choices here. Leave the adapters on for spacers or take them back off . Looks badass leaving them on. Heres a couple pics with them on.

No clearance issues. I believe that you could put a 10" wide wheel on the rear, plenty of space between the spring and tire.

I ran across an old thread yesterday about putting mustang rotors on and having to do some machine work to then. Others conversions that cost over A $1000 and more. I know this isn't for everyone, but for a daily driver or budget build ( that be me) This conversion is @ $100.

Additional 5 holes through hubs and axle flanges has to weaken them to some degree. Then horse power/torque applied are factors. I'm sure it has been done before. I don't know how it worked out. Good luck

Without welding up the 4" bolt pattern holes on the rear axles, you won't be able to (safely) drill the 4 1/2" pattern.

There is plenty of meat on the front hubs for new holes. As far as the rear I haven't pulled the axles as of yet, I will assess that issue .

Do the mustang rotors up front, cut down rear disc brake explorer 8.8 rear in the back. Gives you the 5 bolt 4.5" circle without adaptors. Article on exploder 8.8 in driveline section. It's a sticky. Bought one for my sons car $200. Came with BBP with 1/2" RH studs, rear discs, 3.73 gears and a locker. Explorer disc brake parts are inexpensive too.

This going to cost more going the cheap route than doing it correctly. Good luck on your quest to save a few dollars.

I swapped my small rear for a 8 3/4 with 5 x 4 1/2". I still have factory 9" drums up front. My dad redrilled the hubs and drums to make them 5 x 4 1/2". I just got the car on the road this spring and probably have around 500 miles on it without any issues. I will be switching to front disc brakes this fall as the 9" drums do okay, but I'd like a little better braking.

As far as rear wheel I went with a 8" wheel with a 275/65R15. I had to add a 1/4" spacer to get 1/2" clearance between the leaf spring and tire. The stance was good, but when I would haul people in the backseat the outter side of the tire would rub slightly on the quarter panel lip when taking a corner so I had to raise up the rear of the car just a tad.

The fronts re-drilled without a problem. The rear , I will have to go to plan B. To many holes in the axle flanges for new studs. Soon as I pulled the drums off , I got a reminder of that. Hate when a plan doesn't come together.

See post #6. I wouldn't lie to you!

Like your idea Rat Rod Al, but I think I'm calling Moser, them Tourq Thrusts look awesome on your Cuda, I'd like them on my Dart. Its down right now getting the motor rebuilt anyway.

I have plenty to do on the car before it's done. So I'll just leave the adapters on the rear till I come up with another solution. I like the Ford 8.8 deal.

Post #10 might have some truth to it? Looks like the cheap route is not going as planned.

Debating whether to sell it? Or long term storage it? I'm done with cars for a while.

At least I won"t be in the same boat as you. More $$$$ in it than you can get back out of it.
