Hi, I’m trying to find out what my late husbands 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger May possibly be worth. It’s rust free, has original glass (crack free), everything under the hood is original (although it’s seen better days), but he gutted the interior (although I still have everything he took out). I’ve also got a narrowed rear end and a set of drag slicks he had intended for the car but unfortunately passed before he had the chance. I had someone offer me $500 for the car but feel like they are just trying to take advantage of my lack of knowledge of the car. Was wondering if this actually is a fair price or am I right by holding off?

Welcome to FABO. Post up some photos and we'll give it a look see.

You did the right thing by waiting until you talk to some Mopar guys.
A parts car is worth 500, and I see disassembled cars or no motor and trans going for a lot more than that.

You'll have to specify what engine & transmission. Probably the two most important things that will determine value, other than rust.

Take some pics of the engine first. Also pics of interior showing the shifter, and the pedals. You might have to get numbers off the engine block to ID the engine though. Might be some work.

cant tell to well ,but looks like a 360 2bbl carb on it

You won't find any better people to help you out than here.
I am so sorry for your loss of a husband.

Thanks again for all the reply’s! So, based on what y’all have seen of the car... any thoughts on pricing? Like what I shouldn’t take any less for it, maybe?

I personally would not take less for it the narrowed rear end and if the slicks are good are worth more than 500 depending on the rear end. But you need more pictures of all your trying to sell. If the car is really rust free than would think the car is worth a lot more. Do you have rims with the slicks? If you can try to get more pictures.

Having the title and what ever is legally required for you to sign it over to the buyer will add value to the car. Sorry for your loss.

I think a member that's in her area should volunteer to go over there and take an inventory, and see what's what. You'll have a much better shot at getting a decent /realistic price if you know exactly what you're selling. I have no clue how to get the word out. I'm sure there must be some trustworthy fellow A-Body guys in the area.

Yes that looks very much like a 1976 360 2 bbl engine, with the high hump valve covers and the 360 2 bbl carb.

Looks like the engine was dropped in but not finished hooking it all up.

Ballast resistor hanging by the wiper motor, don't see the brain box.

Don't see the throttle cable or any kickdown linkage hooked up.

Manual Steer Manual Brakes

Does not appear to have any seats in it looking in the windows expanding the pictures up. A radiator is sitting in where the passenger seat goes. Headliner is coming down in the back. Softball size rust holes in lower rear quarters behind rear wheels.

Tiger Paw rear tires, probably a 7 1/4 rear end in it yet knowing the progression these cars go through from 6 cyl to V8. Probably front drum brakes too.

It's got the good chrome trim at the front fender extensions at the grille and front hood edge.

Looks like 71 grille and Dual tail light rear bumper, like the 72s have at the rear. Missing rear valance under rear bumper.

Looking like it's got the Super Stock replacement rear leaf springs in it with the back of the car sitting up as high as it is. Was probably getting ready to install the narrowed rear end next.

VIN:
1971 Dodge Dart
Price Class H = High
with all the chrome trim
2 Door Hard Top
198 1 bbl 6 cyl
Assembly Plant: Windsor, ONT. CAN

Was looking at that brake master cylinder with the larger reservoir on the back half like the disc brake cars use. Possibly Front Disc Brake car because of this ??

About as much as a person can tell with the pictures so far.

Here is a picture of a 72 Duster Disc Brake Master Cylinder. Looks just like the one on her 71 Dodge Dart out in Washington.

Wonder if her 71 has the front disc brakes by chance ?
