Closed chamber head casting numbers that will work on my 273: 2465315, 2532080, 2536178, 2658920, 2658234, 4323302. Wanted in S. Calif. so I can see them or shipping won't be too much.
Thanks, Richard

What year are you working with? They will all work but some are 64/65 heads and will require a dedicated intake manifold or modifications .

Mike,
Yes, I have two '65 single plane, 4 barrel intake manifolds, one is modified to accept the later, larger I.M. mounting bolts.

You might want to look into 302 heads. Smaller 318 ports with heart-shaped combustion chambers and quench.

All the heads the op listed are closed chamber. 273 heads were closed chamber except for the 68-9 heads #675.

Here is a look at the 302 heads, (646 and 714s are the same heads too.)

Yes, 302's would be nice. Of course they cost more too.
What's the full casting #'s for the ...646 and ...714 heads? Are those smog heads with egr ports? Did any of those have hardened exhaust seats too?
Since I don't have an egr on my '65, I'm assuming that those ports would have to plugged before milling that surface on the heads. Right?

Rock auto had them Reman and a great job for $450 (pair) shipped and no core charge, they are out of stock right now. Yes they have hardened seats. Guides redone, the good valve guide seals, larger pushrod holes. Come with single valve springs and all assembled. Thes are 100% Mopar and not some aftermarket cast. And all surfaces are milled on the heads

Simple 3/16" allen plug to tap and plug the smog holes with. No big deal. Don't have access to the heads right now for the full cast numbers.

I have asked Rock Auto to let me know when they get some in. Anyone else have any experience with the remanufactured heads they sell?

My buddy Brian built his 72 Duster's 318 with them. He could not be happier, lots of power.

69 318 9.2:1 Compression Engine with the good factory pistons
302 Closed Chamber Heads
340 Cam
LD4B Intake
Stock 318 Exhaust Manifolds
Port Matched, was close already just smoothed it out
Edelbrock 1406 Carb
Large 2.5" full exhaust system

Excellent Power, Excellent Build

Can Check it out in the Members Restorations here on FABO
Brian's 1972 Plymouth Duster Build
(post page 6 shows the engine build)

Left a notification with RockAuto also, to let me know when they have restocked the 302 Heads. The more interest they have to do the next run the sooner they will become available again. Not commited to buy in doing so.

Last time they went out of stock it took a year before they were back in stock again. Let's hope this round comes a lot sooner.

Those Rock Auto heads look real nice. Hope they do another run soon.

Yes, anyone else that has interest in the 302 Heads should go to RockAuto's site, look up 1986 -1989 D100 318 > Engine > Cylinder Heads.

Click on "Out of Stock" button, give them an email where they can let you know when they are back in stock again.

The more interest the sooner they will be back in stock again.

Very impressive Reman Job, no stone left unturned !

Done!

Yes Nicely Done

They ship out in nice individual black plastic shipping containers for undamaged arrival. Then if you have 302 cores you can ship them back in the same containers for free and get the core charge back.

Still a great deal at $450.00 shipped out for the pair of heads, without having to come up with cores.

So a request to Rock Auto for 86-'89 D100 318 heads will include the ...302, ...646 & ...714 heads, because they are all the same, except for the casting #'s, right? Is there a left and a right?
Also, do they insert new guides? Is there a choice for new valves, e.g. stainless? Do they tell you how much they milled off the head surfaces or what the volume of the combustion chambers are?
Will I be able to use my 273 rocker arms & pushrods?
Are they helpful?

Yes, 302, 646, & 714 are all the same heads, no left or right they fit either bank.

We broke down the heads upon arrival to see what they did to them with the valves out.

It appeared they put in all brand new valves with a few thousandths oversize on the stems, then rebored the guides to the new valves for a perfect valve to guide fit.

Then machined the original cast valve guide tops to accept the positive seal Vinton style valve guild seals.

They are saying that they pressure tested all valve springs to meet their standards, the ones that don't pass are thrown out. By the looks of it though, all the single valve springs looked brand new . . One nice clean up job on them if they were used.

The single valve springs that came with the fresh heads worked great for breaking in the new Mopar Performance 340 Cam. Then were swapped out with new 340 Double Valve Springs to handle the higher rpms should a person desire to run them up there without floating the valves.

It's been a couple years now since we opened them up, but believe they were the 3 angle valve job too. So yes the valves that come with the reman heads seem perfectly adequate.

I am guessing they milled .010ths on the surfaces just to clean things up for the new gaskets to seal good. Did not appear to be any excessive milling, and everything bolted up without issue. Even the stock mopar valve train and new stock mopar push rods.

So yes your 273 valve train should work, unless you have some special mounts for adjustabke rockers. The pushrod holes though the heads are larger than the earlier 318 heads so plenty of clearance there.

We were lucky to find 69 actual size 318 head gaskets from back in the day to keep the compression up. Unlike the larger 318/360 gaskets they are selling now. So yeah start looking for the 273 head gaskets for your build.

Well, I got a note from Rock Auto that they had 3, Famous Brand 2D31 remanufactured heads in, so I ordered 2 of them. It was a 4 hour, online ordeal with their customer service to complete my order. I do not get a warranty because my vehicle, a '65 Dodge A100 van, does not match their list of vehicles that they list as suitable for those heads. Also, their system is set up to only handle 17 digit vin #'s and mine has only 10. The price for the 2 remanufactured 302 heads was $417 (Including $100 for cores) + $39.98 for Fed Ex ground shipping + $35.46 Calif. tax = $493.02.
I do not know when they will do another run.
