Closed chamber heads for 273 in S. Calif.

So a request to Rock Auto for 86-'89 D100 318 heads will include the ...302, ...646 & ...714 heads, because they are all the same, except for the casting #'s, right? Is there a left and a right?
Also, do they insert new guides? Is there a choice for new valves, e.g. stainless? Do they tell you how much they milled off the head surfaces or what the volume of the combustion chambers are?
Will I be able to use my 273 rocker arms & pushrods?
Are they helpful?

Yes, 302, 646, & 714 are all the same heads, no left or right they fit either bank.

We broke down the heads upon arrival to see what they did to them with the valves out.

It appeared they put in all brand new valves with a few thousandths oversize on the stems, then rebored the guides to the new valves for a perfect valve to guide fit.

Then machined the original cast valve guide tops to accept the positive seal Vinton style valve guild seals.

They are saying that they pressure tested all valve springs to meet their standards, the ones that don't pass are thrown out. By the looks of it though, all the single valve springs looked brand new . . One nice clean up job on them if they were used.

The single valve springs that came with the fresh heads worked great for breaking in the new Mopar Performance 340 Cam. Then were swapped out with new 340 Double Valve Springs to handle the higher rpms should a person desire to run them up there without floating the valves.

It's been a couple years now since we opened them up, but believe they were the 3 angle valve job too. So yes the valves that come with the reman heads seem perfectly adequate.

I am guessing they milled .010ths on the surfaces just to clean things up for the new gaskets to seal good. Did not appear to be any excessive milling, and everything bolted up without issue. Even the stock mopar valve train and new stock mopar push rods.

So yes your 273 valve train should work, unless you have some special mounts for adjustabke rockers. The pushrod holes though the heads are larger than the earlier 318 heads so plenty of clearance there.

We were lucky to find 69 actual size 318 head gaskets from back in the day to keep the compression up. Unlike the larger 318/360 gaskets they are selling now. So yeah start looking for the 273 head gaskets for your build.
