904 shifter control arm rubber Grommet

All the pieces of the column shift automatic trans linkage are different from a 70 to a 74 if they are original to those years except the frame and trans bracket. 70 used pins on both ends of the rods and no bushings in the torque shaft where the rods connect, 74 used bushings at both ends of the rods and in the torque shaft where the rods connect.

So we've been lucky up until this point. We have the 70 rear rod going into the 74 grommet at the transmission. We replaced the grommet and lengthened the rear rod to protrude thru the grommet and transmission gearshift control lever and put a washer and pin thru it. This should fix our situation. The donor 74 is long gone, I wish I would have known then I would have taken that rod.
Thank you all, I learn something from this site everyday and with every situation we find ourselves in while working on this car with my son.
