Throttle body to carburetor ??s

So I've got a new spot at work that actually works well with the recent move to the new house. I now have a 35 min relaxed ride on 2 lane country roads. The Shelby Dakota is waiting in the wings for another refresh and paint. In the next year or 2, I'd like to make it my daily driver. Keeping it mostly stock.

Brings me to my question.... 1989 TB technology with a hot starting issue I have yet to figure out from a few years ago - vs - swapping intakes and plopping a 600cfm Eddie on top. I experimented on it once and it didn't go quite right. Brings me to my question...... can I simply ad a fuel regulator with a return to the existing fuel system and hook up the carb? Or will I need a stand alone ignition system as well?
