Route 66

I stopped in at the Rte 66 museum in New Mexico on my way out to California last year. I suppose it was worth the $5 admission.

A trip that is on my bucket list to do! WAs planning to go this summer but we had graduations and two weddings to go to and then it got so dam hot. Next year for sure.

I have always dreamed of driving the old highway. I've been on parts of it and know its not all open anymore. Just wondering if any of you have had the opportunity to do the trip.
Before you go, get a copy of, Route 66 Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion by Tom Snyder, ISBN 0- 312 - 25417 - 2. www.stmartins.com. It's a very detailed turn by turn instruction manual. There's a lot more of the road still there than what a lot of people think.

Thanks. My son gave me a copy last Christmas

Me and my buddy Chris deviated from the Hot Rod Power Tour Route in 2017 for a day and did a section of Route 66 in my '69 Dart in Illinois.

We had an increadible day.

We used these turn by turn maps (one map for each state) which were great to follow. It has turn by turn directions for either way you're travelling.

Yes, we did it last September in our '77 Ramcharger. We went from Illinois to as far as Williams, Az and up to the Grand Canyon. We did not go into California.

Retired 18 months ago and started in on building a 70 Dart GT specifically for long road trips, probably done in a couple years. First trip (we live in WA state) is to go to Cape Flattery at the northwest tip of WA get to 101 and take it down the coast to Rt 1 in CA to Santa Monica, Rt 66 to Chicago, and then other old state highways to the east coast. Then do Carlisle and the Nats and a few other shows, store the car with family for a year. Then fly back and do the whole thing going the other way!

I did Route 66 6 years ago. Stayed at the blue swallow motor court. Nice couple runs that. Cash special. Also stayed at the El Rancho. They have a cool museum in the lobby. Course you have to stand on the corner in Winslow
