Question on “reconditioned” parts... :)

What is your expectation on a part that is listed as reconditioned?

I may do things differently, but when I recondition or restore a part, if its metal, I grind the excess ‘slag’ from the welds, say from a factory welded k-frame or crossmember, I debur the entire part free from rough edges, etc etc.

If the part is rusted & pitted and has a hole where there shouldn’t be a hole, I’d repair that section too, even if it doesn’t hinder the operation or structural integrity of the part ;). ya know, fix the cosmetics, make it look good ;)

Heres a trans crossmember. My guess is it was media blasted real quick and then sent to the powder coater. Now who does the blasting and powder coating, and checks the final outcome, quality control, I don’t know.

Here's some pics, now make no mistake, it’s a fine part and will work for years to come, but this little thing irks me, and I would have fixed it before I sold it to someone as reconditioned.

This x-member might have had a decent amount of rust, there's some rust pits that the powder coating fills up, and on the bottom here, there's a rust hole all the way through. No big deal, but I would have fixed it. If there was a few of these laying on a table at a swap meet, I wouldn't have chosen this particular one. But I have it, ordered & paid for it.

I'm not gonna name the company because I don't want to bash them in any way. Not the intentions of this thread. I'm still a life long customer. :)

This pitting I don't care about. That little hole though. lol

I hope I don't seem like I'm making a big deal, It's really not worth it to ask for a different one, I'd gladly pay shipping both ways, and I'm sure they'd make it right, but I don't want to ask. I'll fix this one. Little bit of bondo should be good to go! LOL

If I was told about that and agreed to it, then there wouldn't be a problem and I would just fix it myself.
If I wasn't shown or told about it in advance and got that as reconditioned I'd be pissed.
That's literally just a rusted through part with powder coating over it.:wtf:
Whoever that company is needs to know that's what you think it is too, or they will keep selling garbage like that as a norm.
