Rain really isn't the main issue, its the small rocks that just seem to find their way thru the holes in the backing plates and into the brake drums that do the damage.
In that case, l think l will install a piece of screen in the e-brake Lin hole and cut out a portion of the backing plate to let any small foreign objects fall out and back onto Mother earth.
