So I know the engine paint question has been beat to death but couldn’t find the answer to my exact question. I was going to buy rustoleum IH red farm implement paint but it looked really dark. Someone mentioned that the new stuff is way off from the old IH shade of red? Is that true? It’s bad to ask but...is the Ford red closer? Seemed brighter? Just don’t want someone to walk up and say “hey your engine is painted ford red, what the heck”? Or I will paint the engine hemi orange? It’s going in a 1965 barracuda with exterior color kk1 peacock blue (medium turquoise). Thanks for the help.

Rustoleum Regal Red is pretty close to the original color. I've painted several engines with Rustoleum with good results. The stuff dries slow, and stays a little tender, but once the engine is running it bakes on real nice.

if you go to a napa store that has a good paint person, they probably have the orig ih red code and can make it in a spray bomb can for bout 20.00.

Try Por-15, Bill Hirsch or buy genuine Mopar engine paint on Amazon.

I like to brush it on...

Is Regal red dark? I wanted something brighter possibly. Maybe I should do race hemi orange instead? Or would that effect the value of the car? Or does that seem odd that the engine in a 65’ Barracuda should be red?

I painted my 65 dart engine with the Eastwood Chrysler red few years ago. I used a harbor freight paint gun it’s held up pretty good. Vehicle is driven and sits outside.

In regard to the International Harvester red paint I have seen that for some reason it is now a darker red. My Dad used to restore IH tractors and his garage has partial cans of IHC red paint from the early 70s to 2009. I got a quart of IHC red from Tractor Supply about a year ago to paint a friends engine and it looked really dark to me. I got a few cans of the old stuff from my Dad's garage and poured them together to have enough paint to get the engine painted. Then out of curiosity I bought five spray cans of IHC red from different sources and each of them is a good bit darker than my Dads old paint. I even sprayed them on a hitch bar of a tractor he had painted several years ago and the new paint is not a match, being much darker than the tractor.

Not sure if it makes a difference...the factory didn't I never have that I can remember...
Thanks for all the help everyone. I’m leaning to painting the motor race hemi orange as of now but will weigh my options. Thought the orange would be sharp against the turquoise. And I want to contrast the engine with satin black parts.

Chrysler red.
Is it red, is it orange?
It looks damn good.
