Looking to upgrade my rocker arms and shaft from the stock 273 ones. Is a race only engine but only sees 6000 rpm and has under a 600 lift cam. Been looking at the Mancini Rocker arms and they have them on sale right now for $450. Anyone ever have any issues with these? Is there another rocker arm setup that is better bang for the buck?
 
A better bang for the buck? I don’t think so price wise. That’s a smokin deal really. Eye balling a set myself.
 
I’d call Mancini and ask, but for the price, I doubt there rollerized on the shaft. It’s worth the call IMHO.

When they rollerize them on the shaft do they use the stock diameter shaft?
 
I don’t think so. 99% of the time I see the same diameter listed within a .001. Other companies I have noted in the past have changed the diameter of the shaft for use with THERE rockers, so that’s a set purchased together.
 
I like the looks of the Comp rockers. I don't know much about them though. They look strong and less bulky.

Harland Sharp has always had that style of body.

Studley, are you looking at these? Mancini Racing Aluminum Roller, 1.5 Ratio
 
those are Harland sharps, no roller bushings. roller tips though. we've used them . they work quite well. worth having.
 
I have them, they are not rollerized, Just solid aluminum. I have yet to have any issues. Run them with a .590 Mopar cam.
 
I’ve found some killer deals on new and used Harlan Sharp rockers over the years and never have had an issue with one and I run the heck out of my stuff. I picked up one new set on EBay for 300.00 with shafts. I probably have 5 sets of 1.5 and 1.6 ratio on my shelf so my son should be set for years.
 
Just do not run "hard chrome" shafts with needles on the shaft
needles need a deep case hardened shaft
I know Mopar just uses surface induction hardening on post 8 3/4 axles, but with HD use they wear through also
many "hard chrome" shafts are just flash chrome
shafts Brinell >>needles wear through,> break> disaster
Hard chrome is grind>copper> nickel" grind> chrome chrome is not thick nickle does the work
Hard chrome is for stock, iron, bronze bushing or even with Al directly on the shaft
factor in a B3 kit with those roller tips else just use Iron rockers and be happy
 
I personally would just use the newer style of Comp Pro Magnum rockers. They can handle just about anything.
 
I have had good luck with the last generation of the comp pro magnum rockers. I have no idea geometry wise, but fit, finish, and longevity have been fine. They also are not that much heavier that an aluminum rocker. If I was in the market for a set I would probably contact b3 racing and pay more attention to the geometry.

the center of the roller is in a completely different place than the face of a stock or iron rocker, throws the rocker angles off from closed to every valve lift

Total waste of money unless you don't have any stock rockers you can use. Little reduction in friction. Ratios are usually all over the place.

Yes I have used them... I have ductile iron and T&D for my race motor. I'll use stock ones on my Gen III Hemi if they work OK.

The cast Mopar and Crane rockers are good. The others are just shiny.

Needle bearings on the rocker arm shaft? Yikes. No thanks. But hey it's your motor...
 
Mancini's are made by harland-sharp, roller tip only, and not bushed. No needle bearings on the shafts. I'm using a set on a 440 and they are good so far, adjustment stays put. Geometry needed some help, like with pretty much any aftermarket rocker and cam combo..
 
aluminum bodies directly on non chrome shafts tend to gall/ smearing
I do not remember using al directly on heat treated shafts
in either case oiling I would think banana groves
spring pressure related?
I just used bronze bushings
and rocker arm specialists in Nor cal do a great job
