The little Mrs and me are going to Scotland next week for 14 days, it's her 60th birthday trip.
We will be all over the northern half of the country, away from the big cities.
Anyone have any advice or travel tip's? Cool places to see etc.
Thanks in advance

Haggis...friend went last year, nothing but good times reported. Nice and green. Go see Waking Ned Devine, its a cute movie about tiny town folk in Ireland (Filmed on Isle of Man) but is probably close to what you'll want to see over there away from Glasgow.

Wife and I are going next year - taking the overnight ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle then the train to Aberdeen which will be our base of operations. Looking forward to it.

Wife and I went last year w/ family; flew into Edinburgh and stayed a couple of days, then drove to Killen and finished out the week. Did a lot of hiking, lots of mountaintop trails w/ beautiful scenery. Visited the Dewars distillery, which was really interesting. Wow the roads are NARROW! Our rental car was a 6-speed stick diesel Ford minivan; way cool but took some getting used to, as well as driving on the other side of the road. Friendly people and good food and drink; had a great time and would go back in a heartbeat.

Something to see is the rail bridge over the Firth of Fourth; an amazing bit of Victorian engineering, any of the castle's, Glenco

What Clan?

Bring warm clothes! We went in August 'a few' years ago (1990) on the way home from Egypt...'bout froze our butts off ;-)
Scotland it beautiful! For (relatively) cheap lunches, look for bakeries and get the meat pies. Way cheaper than a pub lunch.

In October 2016 the USS Tennessee pulled into Scotland, in got to see Edinburgh and Sterling.
Everyday people exactly like us, nice cool weather, lots of stairs and hills (I wore boots to save room on the submarine, military boots were a big mistake).

Tons of history green grass. I considered opening a bank account there and bringing Danndelion seeds-didn’t do it though. For my clearance, the former was highly illegal.

Big tents in Octoberfest. Lots and lots of happy drunk ladies and folk rock-was fantastic!!!! Our glasses were like a third a gallon of beer.

Was extremely grateful to go.

We just got back last night.
What a ride the roads are a rush, fast and really narrow.
Will try to post some pic's later.
Would highly recommend to anyone to go there, bring a lot of $
Thanks to all that posted

Study up on the proper use of roundabouts so you don't look like an American! Also in the small towns getting a table at a restaurant is not a given so be prepared!

Here are some pic's of what ended up being a great vacation.
