I am trying to help a guy out and cant find the thread/post. Someone on here installed a low pressure inline pump to help hot start problems. I think it was a Airtex brand but I could be wrong. Heck, that was 5000 posts ago. Thanks

Hot start problems are caused by fuel boiling at the carb. Instead of a pump add a fuel return so you are not dead ending the hot fuel at the carb. The later dodges that were carburetor-ed Had a return on the filter for this reason. Try one. You can put a fitting on the top of the tank above the sender or get a 72/73 tank . I posted these pictures of my car before and after . I know it is after market but I had the same problem. I would shut it off and when I went to restart it . It would not start. I had to keep shutting the electric pump on and off to get it to idle once it did. Or clear the hot fuel out with some revs.

This was done by putting the regulator on the return after the carb. I needed to buy a return regulator and eliminate the regulator on the feed. Costly with the lines I was using but it ran so much better with the cool fuel constantly flowing by the carb.

Put that return filter as close to the carb as you can. The factory 87's had it between the carb and manual pump at the pump use it in front of the carb. The closer the better It circulates the fuel and puts the hot fuel in the tank. You will not believe how good this works at the track. Sitting in staging lanes makes heat in the line. Dead ended fuel does not cool itself until fresh fuel gets there.

There was a reason they did that to the last carburetor-ed mopars. That return on the filter was added for a reason. Sort of like a built in cool-can.

I run an airtex as a boost pump while I'm at the track to feed my carter mechanical pump with a dead head 6.5 regulator. With the electric pump off the mechanical will pull fuel though the pump, as in normal street driving. The electric is nice to fill the bowls after a jet change. I've insulated my fuel system and don't have hot start issues.
