This could have been bad....Thank God I wasn’t seriously injured. I had a cutoff wheel break sending the disk into my neck. I was wearing safety glasses and a hat. Even if I had my face shield on it might have got me. I’ll be putting the guard back on. Be safe working and playing alone! Craig

Every time I get tempted to pull the safety guard off I imagine my face and eyes being destroyed by shrapnel. Not worth it...

I had an employee cut across the palm of his hand with a cutoff wheel with the gard removed. Bad deal, he lost all feeling in his thumb.

And unless you're really lucky, that feeling never comes back. For the rest of your life.

I cut 2 of my fingers to the bone in 6th grade (not a cutoff wheel incident, though) - had no feeling in the tip of either - one came back a little over sensitive after a few years...the other came back about 20 years later...but it's weird having a numb finger.

The safety guard on the grinder with the cutoff wheel really isn't that much of a nuisance, and they're nasty when they let go - after seeing a few pics, I put them back on last year

Grinders are scary tools. At least the pneumatic are controllable. Electrics not so much. Wonder why adjustable electrics are rare?
I better put the guard on mine!
Glad you're ok.

No different than taking the guard off of a chainsaw.
You have to be aware of the possibilities and keep them in mind when using the tool.
Kind of like standing inline with a direct drive steel radiator fan while revving the engine.:D

**** still happens though, no matter how careful we are.

I was cutting a bolt with a 3" wheel on a die grinder. It grabbed once and I said to myself WTF am I doing? grabbed the 4.5" grinder with the guard and zipped the bolt off.
Adjusting an electric A/C is harder than a rheostat on a D/C. A/C needs to be duty cycled or frequency modulated. Expensive on a 15-$35 device, although buffers have them. Maybe its the amperage they draw.

Yeah when I was grinder shopping for porting, finding an adjustable of any kind is super expensive.
