Notches down and to the left on the shafts. While apart make sure lock nuts sit flush with rockers.

You can cut your own banana grooves with a small cut off disk.
I was going to do that myself, any idea how deep and long for the grooves?

This picture may help give you an idea on depth and width which judging by wear mark, stays in side of rocker arm.

take the plugs out of the ends and clean
shafts look like there are wearing well

.025 - .030 All you need is an oil path. As mentioned knock the plugs out and get them clean after cutting.
If you're running a strong spring or a higher lift it might be a hood idea. Millions of 273's and 318's were built without the grooves. I think the 340's got them.
