I have Edelbrock Elite's. (The ones with the fake allen head screws.) They cleared before I installed the rocker shaft hold downs. (And they came with the engine.) Not now. They hit the end hold downs. They measure about 2 1/2 to the baffle. They're about 3 1/2 high overall. Is that considered a "tall" cover? Doesn't seem so. But it seems I need something stamped, if they have more room at the ends.

The engine also has Crane Gold roller rockers.

This is a low budget project. Anyone know what'll fit? I've been searching, but it's hard to say what'll clear.

I have an email in with Angelucci, but I wanted to ask on here in case they recommend something out of my price range.

You might try some thicker valve cover gaskets. They make them. Seems weird the hold downs are what's hitting. Are they hitting the stands for the PCV baffle or something??

MediceMfg ...Valve Cover Spacers - Mopar
Expensive but it will do the job! Top is for Magnum and bottom is for LA motor

That's pretty funny, because the magnum pieces will fit either engine.

I had the mopar perf. covers hit a set of pro comp hold downs, u can machine / file the upper corners of the end hold downs , on a taper to not weaken them------- no biggie !

Had the same problem with hold-down blocks. The early stamped 273 Commando covers cleared nicely; we had to modify the inside baffles a bit but I think that was for the rocker adjusters. Regular 318 stamped valve covers might do it too, but we did not try them.

So the hold down on the end of the shaft is hitting valve cover? Those must be some big hold downs.

Not hitting the baffle.
Two of what I have is 3/8". Almost enough. Can't find the thicker gaskets. Any idea who makes them?

Nice, way nicer than my Edelbrocks and too pricey. Thanks.

Considering this. I'm going to clay them. It doesn't seem like it is much.

Maybe a cheapie set of chrome stock type will work.

Angelo (Angelucci's) got back to me. He doesn't remember a clearance problem. He's going to look into it.

3/8 gasket thickness and they still hit??. Off the top of my head I think the thickest gaskets I found were .197 or something.

I look and see if I can find the catalog and see what's in there.

Just the ones that came with the Felpro set. Each about 3/16. (probably your .197.) With the 2 under it, it almost clears.
I just ordered these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CMD7I8/?tag=joeychgo-20 They're supposed to be "tall", and maybe because they're stamped, there will be a little extra room. Not too expensive, and my Edelbrocks are ugggglee. That's the way they were when I bought an entire wrecked D150 for the drivetrain. I spent about 4 hours polishing one (still needs more) before I found out it wouldn't fit. DOH!!

I just installed the above covers. They seem okay.
Comparing the two, the stamped (new) ones are longer inside.
They're made by our friends in China (sarcasm), and are of average quality.

Thanks for the help folks.

Yep..... longer inside up at the rocker level. As long as they keep the oil in and the dirt out and look OK to you, that's all you need!
