I got a chance to buy both (and if I could afford em both, I would)
The SKS is chinese, the AK a Romanian wasp

Both chambered in the same round, which one would be the better buy ?

This one.

Depends on how much they are. I'd take the AK if I couldn't do both. Me, I'd sell the old lady and get both.

Not really, but that's what I tell her.

I have only seen one SKS and the stock was made out of plywood is all I remember about it.

$200

The SKS has a solid wood stock (he actually has 2 that he's selling, one with the stock stock, one with refinished stock)

One of the SKSs has aftermarket sights l, ghost rings maybe?

Because it doesn't have a removable magazine, the SKS is not regulated in some places as an assault rifle. Depending on where you live, that could be a plus. The folding bayonet is cool. It won't load as fast as an AK, and they are very cheaply made. But if you want a nice rifle, you're not really going to consider either.

Spend the money and buy an AR10, that's my upgrade from my mini 14.
Please move this to N+P. So I can tell you how I really feel.

You mean WASR? Was it import, or home build? Them are nice rifles, not the best, but better than alot. Either way, if possible check the bores, and headspace, AK's are great... Very simple, and will run forever. People will b!tch about the accuracy, but I have dropped a pigeon at around 100 yards with mine.

What’s an assault rifle? I know an of ArmaLite rifle....

Though I do have an assault hammer lying around somewhere...

AK.

I have one and I love it. I had an SKS and sold it. No comparison to the AK.

Mine looks like this.

Nah, you want a semi in 308, go with a Heckler&Koch... Or even one of the offshoots, but I mean it is just me, i am not a fan of the AR's or their prodigy. Too many little parts for my liking. Not knocking them, just to each their own.

LOL. I wondered why I got the old red X. I didn't know we were throwing an AR platform into the discussion.

Personally, I don't care for the AK platform. But that wasn't the question. I have to stay on point, and not add my opinions because the elite cadre here will blow me up.

What in your opinion is wrong with the AK platform? Feel free to pm me...

Of the two, the AK all day long. Pulling the trigger (pun intended) on an AR kit soon in .223 Wylde. Stay tuned!

Get a parts kit, receiver flat, and a bender... Build it yourself, no numbers, and no attention. JMO... Don't do anything illegal.

You will still need to have the receiver sent to an FFL unless it’s needs work to be considered a firearm.

A receiver flat, is just a stamped receiver. It is flat. You have to bend it, then weld/bolt in the lower rails... It's all actually easy-peasy... Whole lot online to show you. Used to be, parties. Everyone shows up, everyone helped out. But I guess the gubment said you can't do that anymore.
