Order of assembly? From a bare shell

-
Made some progress the past few days. Nuthin spectacular, but it's starting to look better. Crawling around underneath ain't bad, its having to switch from roloks to wire wheels to cutting discs(removing plug welds), then forgetting something up top....getting down is ok. It's the getting up that's slowing me down lol. Tight quarters lol Went with Armor Coat, apparently it's made by Rustoleum. Great coverage, I'm happy with it. Moving up to the floor pan next, it should go a little quicker as it's new and requires next to no sanding.
Trying to find and organize pieces for the 8 3/4 lol. Unorganized is an understatement lol.
Back to work next few days, I'll grab more paint and do what OMM/Steve advised with pouring in the 1/4's and rockers.

Looks fantastic. Sounds like you got the same problem as me getting up is harder and getting paint on my face is worse.

Lol, yep the pi$$ poor memory doesnt help either.. get under the damn thing and forget the goggles or dust mask or.... and have to crawl back out. Hopefully have a hoist by the time I'm 90.
Thanks guys. Your encouragement helps.

You got a good shelter more than I had till a few years ago. I think your encouraging us to do a better job.

Thanks for the kind words Fred, much appreciated.
Matt, im just rolling it on. 2 coats so far. I will spray bomb for nooks n crannies missed spots after. Hoping to undercoat before winter but we will see lol.

I wonder if maybe a foam brush would work well for the tight spots. Looking pretty hard at this for when I get to that point on sonny's car.

What is going over the Armor coat to protect the bottom of the car ? I have been cleaning the bottom of my A56 Cuda and painting with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and then factory white as I thought all factory cars were finished. Just recently I thought that maybe I should undercoat the bottom of the car instead of just painting.

Matt that's what I'm using 4" foam rollers and brushes. I bought dollar store rollers. They are "ok", but make sure they have an insert the entire width of roller or they flop around with heavy paint lol.

Anthony Armor Coat can go on directly to metal. No primer needed. Directly over rust too, but I sanded off the slight rust there was.
Over top of Armor I will undercoat with Proform undercoating. Its paintable too if you choose.
Thanks guys, appreciated.

Anthony, it's up to you but I would undercoat. No way in hell I would use white either lol. Factory was black I believe. I just want protection, not going for show. Wont be any mirrors under this car, only if it has coke on it lol.

Dont feel bad, I've owned it for 27 years.....

Whew, what a relief, I've got 20 more years since I've had mine for only 7 years, lol. My dad on the other hand has had his '57 Ford Fairlane 500 for about 30 years. Since he had to retire last year at age 75 (he didn't want to even then), he's actually making progress now.

The 69 is one of the reasons our 67 sits this year. No time would have been spent on the 69. Well that and fishing lol.
Good on your Dad!

Just ordered the Proform Rusfre Bb1013-1 Brush-On Undercoat Gal from Amazon. goint to be doing small areas at a time and thought the brush on would be a better fit for this type of application.

I used krylon black. Apparently it has good reviews. I use the small fuzzy rollers. They seem to carry more paint and dabbing into tight corners works well.
I usually blow the new rollers with shop air, to get rid of the loose fuzz, some still stick in the paint, but its not a piano...

The wax job should be done after the paint job, or your painter will kill you. In the hot paint cabine the wax drip out of the hidden areas. As the first step i like the a 2K epoxy primer on the rustfree sheetmetal.

Epoxy primer DTM will stick to even cat chit. Worth the $, and you do not have to buy the highest price stuff out there for it to work. Then covering with Rustoleum is a cheap and good avenue. You can buy a spray gun cheap, that shoots a qt. or gallon of undercoat like the factory used. Some undercoats can be painted also.
Like said, I hope to have a lift by the time I hot 90!!
Don't it make you feel good to see the bottom of your car so clean and pretty!! Ya better hurry up, winter is just a week away up there!!??????

I very well may be the painter, so I could be my own worst enemy The wax will be going on after the undercoat. Gotta finish painting underside 1st. Baby steps lol. Thanks for the input.
Cheers Steve

The only thing being sprayed underneath will be the undercoat. Cars on jack stands and I'm rolling around on my back. Underneath has been epoxy primed or has black coating(new AMD pans)but still needs paint.
It's all metal and solid but it's probably gonna have a TON of redneck finish to it.
Winter ain't far and I wont be outside working on it then lol.
Thanks

My car doesn't seem to have any undercoating, making all this easier LOL. Just cleaning some surface rust (now theat the driver floorboard has been replaced) lots of midwest dirt.

Well I have had mine for 35 and it’s been apart for 32 so you have some time. Hoping to have the drivetrain in it for the first fit up yet this year if I ever get the house renovation done
