Can some one make me smarter about these axles for my '63 Dart. If I go to Yukon they have gear sets for '66 and up axles. What is different about the early axles compared to after '66?

Jim, I don't know the difference or if there is one, but here is what Summit shows for the 63. When I plug in 66, I get 3 more choices. I think they are the same, but I am not 100% certain.

The '63 axles themselves probably still have the conical ends where the drums hook up to.
Not sure how different the gears would be between the later models.
But, if you want a really short explanation of 7-1/4" rear ends; Ditch them when they require maintenance! ;)

X2 I only know enough about those to remove them and scrap them. Effin hand grenade with anything more than a mild 318 in front of it.

I heard the garden tractor puller guys use the 7 1/4 axles.

i know early 7.25 have different backing plate bolt patterns than later housings also early gears can only be used with early cases on the 7.25.
