I need some help identifying this tool. My brother-in-law found it in a box of things that belonged to my dad. I don't remember it and have no idea what it is for? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I guess I should have given more info. When you slide the thing that looks like a trigger forward, a small chisel like blade comes out of the tip. It has adjustable stops at both ends to control the travel of the blade. Might be for fine woodworking or maybe leatherwork?

I had a old retired wood worker look at it yesterday and just scratch his head?

I think your right on it's for leather work of some kind but would be nice to figure it out.

It's for punching through leather and stitching the leather cord through, if I'm not mistaken.
Basically, and hand-driven sewing machine for leather.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what it is. It's not my dad's it was my grandfather's who did leatherwork.

If nothing really moves, could be some sort of soldering tool
See posts 13 and 14 above. It is for punching holes in leather goods so they can be laced together. It belonged to my Grandfather. I still have the wallet he helped me make as a kid.
