I was going through all the misc parts I have collected and looking at some of the stuff my dad collected and found this.

My dad made it, I don't rember why. But I do know what it is.9

It is 22 inches long, 20 1/2 to the hose clamp about 3/16 diameter. It has 2 wires coming out of one end and the other is soldered closed. It is made from soft copper tubing.

Hint it has a purpose associated with a 273 but not exclusively.

WHAT IS IT?

GOOD LUCK

Looks similar to something me grandpa made to shock worms for bait out of the ground after a rain.

But maybe a block heater?

Rectum torturing device for terrorists. We WILL make them talk.

Nothing to do with worms, not a block heater. Terrorist torture device I can see that but no.

I'm guessing to check temp of oil

Ding ding ding we have a winner!.

Don't remember why he made it but I remember him calibrating it. It has a variable resistor and changes resistance based on temperature. He made a graph and would compare the resistance against it and get the temperature. He did it on paper (pre PCs).

I think he might of had worms down in his oil pan and was checking their temp !

If I remember correctly, the worm getter had 2 separate probes.

My son also installed a oil temp gauge mounted on the filter going to the cooler. Oil temp is never the same as water temp. Your Dad was a smart man. . Oil temp gives you the temp of the bottom end. just as important as the water temp on the top.

If you have any hardblock in the block it gives you a better idea of engine temp.
