Cool car. How do you KNOW sparks came out of the exhaust? Or did you just see them come out from under the car? If it's a manual transmission, a clutch failure could explain everything you describe. Clanking, sparks and loss of power. I cannot see an engine failure spitting sparks ALL the way out of the tailpipe.
Sorry I forgot to mention that my fiance was following behind me in her car and she reported seeing LOTS of sparks at a regular interval comming from the exhaust pipe right before I lost all power.
