SKS or AK47

You can get larger Magazines for the SKS. Not difficult to change out ,I put a Muzzle brake on mine , acuuracy is good for a service rifle, You can get different stocks too. If you need to use the bayonet you need to learn to shoot better - If can,t hit my target before they get that close I don't need a gun. i don't regret getting the SKS good brush gun , does what it is supposed to. Never owned an AK -Like My Colt AR better

I have always had issues with my removable 30 round mag. It usually takes me a couple tries to get it seated correctly.

I have six 30 round mags and never had a problem with any of them. Can you see where the issue is? You might have a defective mag.

Thanks for all the advise guys
I will look into the sites mentioned
What would I expect to pay per round?

Around $0.30 to $0.35 for decent bulk ammo is typical (500 rounds+). More than that and you are getting into specialty rounds.

Why is corrosive primer bad? You all clean your gear after you shoot? Is it just cheaper or is it not cheaper but more of a prefference? I suppose Id choose non corrosive over corrosive if I had a choice but does the cost saving not warrant the labor?

I have bad experiences with corrosive ammo. You think you have it all cleaned...but you didn’t get it all.

Not worth the risk of damaging the weapon. Just skip the corrosive stuff and never have to worry about it. The cost difference is minimal.

Kinda a dumb situation I am in but I have the mag here at my house but the SKS is at my dads place for some reason. I’ll post pics of the magazine in the morning.

You have an SKS modified to accept a 30 round mag? I’d be willing to bet the issue is with the weapon modification...not the mag.

im gonna give SGammo a try
they had a better yelp review (whatever that is)
and it looks like the ammo is made by real Russian, that's gotta be good

I’ve had good luck with SGammo getting rounds for the FAL.

If you are going to shoot much...time to start reloading. And if you are going to reload, only buy brass ammo. You can't reload the steel cases. And yes, I tried. It's not a good outcome.

For the price, buy the steel. Brass for a 7.62x39 is outrageous... Not going to reload the steel as it's berdan primer. I mean you can, but a serious pain in the @ss. And for what you can get the ammo for? It just as cheap to buy it.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention reloading

I wonder what the cost would be
I guess I would need powder, primers, a tumbler (to clean the casing) actual tips, and the press
if I were to guess at that, and look at the cost per round, and take into consideration id have to buy the first set with brass casings...I would guess it would be a TON of rounds, before the cost per round made up for the initial investment

Depends on what you are reloading (caliber) and why. It can come out better for you if obsolete round, or if you want absolute perfection from each round. But last I looked, which has been a while. The x39 brass was up over $1 a fired round... I will get 5-6 loaded rounds for that... Which you need more than you think to reload. Powder scale, tumbler, press, dies, sizers, crimper, it's a whole nother world. For something worth doing it, I would say go for it, but not the x39...

Read the previous post. It isn’t worth it.
